After his comments on the 'intolerance' issue caused a raging national debate, Aamir has now issued an official statement, clarifying what he exactly meant.

Read: Aamir Khan on intolerance: I am alarmed, my wife suggested moving out of India

Here's what the statement read:

First let me state categorically that neither I, nor my wife Kiran, have any intention of leaving the country. We never did, and nor would we like to in the future. Anyone implying the opposite has either not seen my interview or is deliberately trying to distort what I have said. India is my country, I love it, I feel fortunate for being born here, and this is where I am staying.

Secondly, I stand by everything that I have said in my interview.

To all those people who are calling me anti-national, I would like to say that I am proud to be Indian, and I do not need anyone's permission nor endorsement for that.

To all the people shouting obscenities at me for speaking my heart out, it saddens me to say you are only proving my point.

To all the people who have stood by me, thank you. We have to protect what this beautiful and unique country of ours really stands for. We have to protect its integrity, diversity, inclusiveness, its many languages, its culture, its history, its tolerance, it's concept of ekantavada, it's love, sensitivity and its emotional strength.

I would like to end my statement with a poem by Rabindranath Tagore, it's a prayer really :

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high, Where knowledge is free, Where the world has not been broken up into fragments, by narrow domestic walls, Where words come out from the depth of truth, Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection, Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way, Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit, Where the mind is led forward by thee, Into ever-widening thought and action, Into that heaven of freedom, my father, let my country awake.

Jai Hind.

Aamir Khan.

But he haven't retreated
"Secondly, I stand by everything that I have said in my interview."
I think Aamir can live without endorsement. He has done that earlier😊

Yes that would have been good but then it may lead to open pandora's box

it saddens me that one cannot even express his views..and if he does..his posters and burned and what now. Thank you India for proving exactly what he was saying. How INTOLERANT..some one says a mere thing and we see his posters being burned. So India is only tolerant to those saying it is the best place ever? any one who raises his voice on any issue or highlighting any negative aspect..he should be kicked out? Wow

i am sorry but this nation is intolerant and 70% of population living there is the proof of it..until these people don't stop with the threats and burning of posters of anyone who even raises a voice on any issue..i see no hope

the recent episode of fawad and mahira not being allowed to shoot in mumbai again only emphasises how intolerant is India. Shame!!

P.S: yes pakistan is worse..and yes i admit it being a pakistani..i don't want to be deluded..but just because India is better there..it still is intolerant..and the first step in changing it would be when people realize that and change themselves

I don't get it. I mean he needs to have the freedom of speech to voice his opinions doesn't he? It's a human right. It's really sad that people misquote and judge a celebrity's opinion and label them for holding an opinion

I've been living with the civil war in my country and thankfully it ended after 20 odd years recently and there was never a day I didn't feel so helpless with bombs exploding in my country and we were taught how to react or rather defend ourselves during explosions at schools. I will never forget those dark days when my mom and dad were outside the school gate whenever an explosion happened in Colombo. Everybody who could afford fled from the country and you cannot blame them or call them as cowards. It's their human instinct and human right to go somewhere safer. Just an example to express my opinion to say Aamir Khan too has the right to say what he feels

I m glad he doesn't change his statement. I may not agree with what he says especially how he said it but the fact that he still gets to say it is what makes this country something u r proud of . No amount of bullying or abuse is gonna change that and I hope every citizen realises this basic idea. Everybody has a point of view and it is our freedom to express it. BJPs tactics of making every criticism against the government into an Anti national statement is getting old.
