PRDP was not that bad a movie. The story was cliche, but decent. The music did fairly well, the setting was fantastic. Sonam and Salman clicked too.
The problem is that the movie was promoted way too much across all mediums, from TV promos and social media to music, Sooraj Barjatya, "return of Prem from 90s" - connecting the movie to HAHK and HSSH, solo release for Diwali, big budget movie etc.
All the above reasons resulted in a significant increase in expectations from the movie. People began believing it would be yet another family-oriented blockbuster with an emotional touch to it.
Fortunately or unfortunately, when the movie released, everyone's expectations went down the drain. But why? Because they expected too much from it in the first place!
Instead of watching the movie as a first preference for Diwali, I decided to wait and read the reviews first. As I read plenty negative reviews on Twitter, I first reduced my expectation from the movie. Trust me you, when I watched the movie, I did in fact enjoy it! Yes, the climax was pretty much cliche, but where do you find entirely original movies in Bollywood anyway.
Salman and Sonam both acted fairly well. All in all, I don't think the movie deserves the negative critique it received. Keeping aside monetary success, the movie is not a super hit, but it's not a shit flop either. It's a good entertainer.
