What makes icons feel insecure?

When Madhuri came back permanently, I started to see her in gowns in award function for the first time. Of course, Bollywood had changed since she left and she was trying to fit in the new Bollywood. I never understood why people like Mads and Sri try so hard to fit in with youngster's dressing sense, when they were actually divas. The girls they were trying to mimic could never reach, where they are today. Still why insecurity?

After watching Garua, same question. SRK-Kajol trying to mimic younger generation's formula for romance. Exotic locations, genre of song. (Reminds me of Ranbir's songs with Katrina and Deepika, like Tu Jaane Na).
These people sold us an evergreen song standing in Punjab's field, Kajol wearing a loose salwar. Then why try so hard? They are icons. To get footfalls, they don't need to do anything. They just have to be themselves.

Tried to hard with Gerua but failed big time. And its nowhere close to Suraj Hua Maddham song also not even 1% of it.

So true. I got that vibe as well.

They're trying too hard to fit in. I don't see any romance or chemistry in the song. I wish I hadn't seen the video because now I can't appreciate the song as much as I would've for it's lyrics.

Why cant 40+ women wear gowns to functions? Is that a crime? 😕
Or is this part of age-shaming in BW like Sonam calling Ash Aunty?

As for the song Gerua, they are not copying younger pairs, they are recreating Suraj Hua Madhyam, their own famous song from K3G which was also shot in exotic locations in Egypt! Ring a Bell? 😉
The younger couples try to copy them, not the other way around. 😆The young pairs can only hope to capture even a fraction of the magic that SrK Kajol can invoke.

And this song is clearly a dream sequence like SHM, hence the exotic locations. In most of the film, SrK Kajol will be enacting the roles of an older couple who meet again after 15 yrs. This song is part of their past history when they were young lovers, younger versions of themselves.

I know. In this forum, a film/song has to be great or crap. There are no grey area. People who are not black and white are preachers. 😆 I am not bothered about labels or have any interest to join a camp.

I did not say, they should not wear gown because they are 40+ and they are not looking good. If one feels comfortable in flaunting it, it is fine. But they don't need to wear it to fit in an atmosphere. How does my comment looks like age shaming?

Vidya Balan once said the same. Everything was going wrong when she was trying to fit in. She just let be herself and everything fell in place. Agreeing with her statement is not age shaming or fat shaming.

Gowns or western dresses dont suit Vidya, so she accepted that and only wears saris now. But gowns can suit other women like Kajol or Sridevi. Everyone doesnt fall into same body type no matter what their age is. Depends on how confident one is in carrying off gowns and western dresses.
