Why would you want them to be stuck in the 90s? People make films to work. So will they make movies keeping the present sensibilities in mind or will they make it with the 90s sensibilities?
You still want Kajol to run across Punjab's fields wearing a loose salwar? Do you think it will work?

What is wrong if Madhuri wears gowns? May be she is doing it for herself? May be she thinks she looks better in them? How can you say she is trying to fit in?

So people aren't even allowed to wear what they want without being called insecure.

Are Sridevi and Madhuri expected to be forever stuck in the 80s and 90s? Fashion changes with time and most people keep up with it.

Amitabh Bachchan was famous in the 70s so he's expected to keep on wearing bell bottoms? Does he become insecure for keeping up with the times?

All this judgmental nonsense is always reserved for women.

Or is this part of age-shaming in BW like Sonam calling Ash Aunty?

As for the song Gerua, they are not copying younger pairs, they are recreating Suraj Hua Madhyam, their own famous song from K3G which was also shot in exotic locations in Egypt! Ring a Bell? 😉
The younger couples try to copy them, not the other way around. 😆The young pairs can only hope to capture even a fraction of the magic that SrK Kajol can invoke.

And this song is clearly a dream sequence like SHM, hence the exotic locations. In most of the film, SrK Kajol will be enacting the roles of an older couple who meet again after 15 yrs. This song is part of their past history when they were young lovers, younger versions of themselves.

exactly my thought😆

The girls they were trying to mimic could never reach, where they are today. Still why insecurity?

After watching Garua, same question. SRK-Kajol trying to mimic younger generation's formula for romance. Exotic locations, genre of song. (Reminds me of Ranbir's songs with Katrina and Deepika, like Tu Jaane Na).
These people sold us an evergreen song standing in Punjab's field, Kajol wearing a loose salwar. Then why try so hard? They are icons. To get footfalls, they don't need to do anything. They just have to be themselves.

@Blue

What is a youngster's dressing sense ? Wearing dresses ? Jeans ? Ball gowns or just gowns ? And "older" women should wear sari to be considered appropriate for their age ? Is that enough or is a gunghat necessary too ? Does it apply for village women or city women too ?What about women who travel abroad frequently ? Indian women who live abroad ? What is the age which is the cut off when a women should not ape "youngster's dress sense" by wearing jeans or gowns ? 40s ? late 30s? early 30s? 🤔

Your basic assumption is wrong. Madhuri is a woman who married an NRI and lived abroad for a while. I don't think she was wearing sari and jewelry while grocery shopping. In fact jeans would have been probably what she wore. Sridevi has also worn western clothes consistently. It is not that they wear 9 yards and gunghat at home and western clothes on screen and off the red carpet. This is not a saas bahu serial where the women are unnaturally made up and loaded with jewelry or a purani bollywood film where the western heroine wears so called sanskari clothes from western to be 'appropriate'. I have consistently seen Kajol wear jeans in her real life and western clothes for promo, but stuff like Durga Puja she is in full sari, though no gunghat. It is the way they live their lives like countless ordinary women in cities in India all the time. How is it their insecurity, possibly others but not theirs.

@Red

As for Gerua, SRK-Kajol are not imitating the younger generation's actions Watch closely. The exotic location and visuals are a pale imitation of Suraj Hua Madham, but the actions are from that ever green song standing in the fields of Punjab, right from SRK turning his head in the beginning, to the hugging from behind, SRK opening his arms and Kajol running to him, to Kajol running her hand in his hair, SRK Kissing her on the forehead and neck, and the running to each other. It is all there. In fact the scene where he kneels before her in the cave near the water fall has a similar DDLJ "Tujhe Dekha Tho" similar vibe. You can even see the gazebo scene of KKHH in the dancing. SRK himself has signature moves he does with most of his heroines, the opening of the arms is one such. He and Kajol have moves that they have repeated for 20 plus years right from Baazigar. I've watched this couple and DDLJ since I was a child. It's all there. This film is a tribute to DDLJ. but it has moves that they have repeated from all their previous films. If anyone is copying anyone, it is others trying to recreate their magic, not SRK and Kajol

It's more about moving with the times, and keeping up with fashion trends.
You expect to see Kajol in 90s mini skirt or ghagra-choli just because she used to wear those back then?

Think about it, when you were 15 do you or will you wear the same things as when you're 25?

I certainly didn't. We all wear what's in fashion, whatever is trendy. We find what suits us personally within the latest fashion trends.

That's all that's going on here.

Why putting words into my mouth? I never said, they should not wear gown. I clearly said, they don't have to wear to fit in. I did not say, it does not suit Madhuri's body or Kajol's body. But someone else said, it does not suit Vidya's body. Is this statement not being judgemental?
Why bring Madhuri's US stay here? Yes, I know she was abroad. She is used to wear western dresses. Not only Madhuri, any other (non film) people, above her age also wear jeans. (But I am sure, she did not have to wear gown to get groceries). Her contemporaries in India (like Juhi Chawla) also wear western clothing. But still, Juhi just remains herself, natural. She does not try to appease anybody.

Fashion keeps chaging. Yes, bell bottoms were 70s. So are some ladies salwars in 80s (or 90s?) which were stitched like Dhotis. I have seen Madhuri (or Karishma?) in such songs. I did not ask them to wear that, just because they had worn them in 90s.
Am I expecting Kajol to run in fields with Salwar? No, probably not. I don't expect them to run any more. You walk, sit and talk. That's it, you can ignite fire.

I know people, who in their teens have woken up till midnight on film fare award night, just to get a glimpse of their dream girl, who would turn up in a white salwar kameez with a million watt smile. These men in their 40s cannot associate themselves with today's Madhuri, who is very different from the image they have cherished so far (could be nostalgic factor).

Kajol these days is looking fairer than Kriti. I have seen Baazigar. Everyone knows, sitting at home with kids will not bring this huge colour difference. If someone says, audience loved her the way she was in Baazigar, DDLJ. There was no need to treat her skin, does it become shaming her dusky tone?
