Wow...what a movie! A classic indian delicacy...served the traditional way! Its been a while since I saw a shuddh desi Indian movie which inspired me sooo much to come and vent at IF! I was completely into it...Sushant played it very subtly and his character looked very authentic to me. The script and direction were very tight and impactful! No lengthy intros..no build up nothing...straight to the mystery.
The story was gripping but light hearted at the same time without additional drama. The production values and everything looked very very authentic and awesome!

The movie reminded me of just how much influence all these new breed of directors including Anurag Kashyap draw from Quentin Tarantino's movies. Admittedly, they all are his fans. The climax scenes and some small touches like how Ajit hits the back of his head unknowingly with a lamp after checking the dead body of their follower at the dentist's place...that was hilarious to me and it just goes on to show how in the moment and totally out of place they felt at the time. It reminded me of QT movies. Even the scene at the factory when they spot the rotting corpse, Byomkesh pukes...haha

Too many things to talk about...I liked Byomkesh's eyebrows, Guha's home, how Byomkesh runs to the Police station with half face shaved and everybody is confused, Sushant's unassuming acting, the chaiwala guy at their house and his "super vibratory" response to many of the guests, how the next morning after all the bloodshed in the house Ajit asks the chaiwala to keep tea ready as the police is expected soon and how Byomkesh instructs them not to clean the bloodstains at the place, how Byomkesh asks Satyawati about his prize/jewelry after saving her brother etc etc.

I especially loved the little teasing line incorporated in the script. Something to the effect of- "how can a normal person contribute to the nation in such dire circumstances?----- By going to the movies"...hilarious stuff!! Also loved it when Byomkesh paused for a millisecond before going into the house confidently posing as an inspector when he meets Satyawati!

Awesome movie...highly recommended!

PS: Anu *hugs*...long time...how have you been?

Ipshy! 🤗 Long time indeed! So nice to see you here and glad to see you enjoyed the movie too!

Excellent point about the Tarantino influence...I think it was mainly noticeable in the climax action sequences more though...otherwise the rest of it was very much a Dibaker brand of dry/satiric humor in many ways...his style is just not as gory as Tarantino's...lol...but yes the dark humor is deffo a common link...the influences are there but I find DB to be quite original in his film-making otherwise...and something very classically INDIAN cerebral about this...not a wannabe foreign cinema or copycat vibe to it...I think that is what really floored me.

P.S. Did anyone mention the hilarious Sardarji Taxiwala and his exasperation with Byomkesh yet? Bahahaha I loved that too...the way he goes, "Is Babuji ka nut dheela hai"😆

Speaking of the factory scene...the instant improv from Byomkesh there and getting Guha to play along "Mary had a little lamb"😆...and then the foreshadowing wala dialogue..."Sach ke aas paas wala jhoot pakadna mushkil hota hai"😆...how that comes back to haunt Byomkesh later.

Some of my fav. shots...noticed these even more in the trailers after watching the movie...CINEMATIC is also too small a word

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this shot SO much...in the theater toh it was even more AWE inspiring...how PERFECTLY still that dog was in the background as Byomkesh walks towards the factory with his trademark arms behind his back pose...simple yet so detailed...

This shot from the scene when Byomkesh gets high and SCARES poor Ajit through the mosquito net...just look at how BEAUTIFULLY framed it is

Sushant 👏

LOL @ I'm trying to think of more ways to disappoint people. Well I'm glad he has a sense of humor about this. 😆

Whattt there's a huge part we haven't seen? Whta does that mean? It was edited out or something we didn't catch only?

Interestign qote: I'm trying to make films that are dream-state delivering! I guess that shows na...and that the script was written like an iceberg, yeah I can totally see that now!
