Everything else aside, People in here write better reviews than the critics. Positive, negative or mixed...all of them make so much more sense than those paper/magazine reviews which are so random and lame. 😆

About the film's BO collections, .. YRF totally deserved it.

Regarding the promotions, everything that they did online was nice .. the vines, east india comedy (waise I feel like... maybe they could have chosen TVF which slightly more popular .. ) , the trailers .. But all this is secondary. Only the people active on online forums or browse through online entertainment sites will know about this..

We usually have music/ent channels running at home in the morning and an hour or so in the evening .. My parents knew about Badlapur releasing because the songs and promos came very frequently.. They knew about NH10 .. because though the promotions started late.. when it did start.. they played chhill gaye naina very often...

Forget about playing promos/songs on TV, the DBB song videos were shot just days before the film released ...

Now, whether BKB and Calcutta Kiss would have caught on or not is debatable, but what boggles my mind is, YRF didnt even think of shooting these videos earlier.. so that they could have released them on TV much earlier... and there would have been a better chance and TIME for them to grow on people's minds.

A couple of weeks ago, when my mom saw sushant on tv, she asked me .. "Oh , what happened to that bakshy film? Did it release?" I told her it will release in couple of weeks.. And my mom commented that she had completely forgotten about the film because she saw some promo ages ago.. and after that she didnt see anything on TV.

Yes, it is true that he did come on reality shows ... but that happens a week before the film releases, or during the weekend of the film's release. If there is no visibility through promos in the days prior to that, this doesnt help much.

Next, coming to the release date, dunno how they could totally overlook the clash with FF7 . Like seriously, why even postpone releasing the film so many times , to end up choosing what has turned to be the worst possible date?

And top it all, they give it less than 1300 screens?!!

FF7 + Low screen count + late/skewed promotions had a significant impact. I am not saying that the movie would have made some 100 crores .. but it would have definitely done better (and seeing how the film is struggling at the BO, that might have atleast comfortably pushed the collections enough for a hit tag)

Now, coming to Dibakar's vision, it is great that that Adi C seems to have given him a free reign.. and DB set to make the film exactly the way he wanted .. But like people said, it did end up being a bit convoluted for people to understand .. and it maybe wasnt the best thing to do for a film which is supposed to start off a franchise.. And if DB didnt intend to make it that way, then he probably did fail in what he wanted to do. Or overestimated the audience. Or didnt care as long as it broke even and made slight profit . Or just made the movie he wanted to make and for his own satisfaction.

And if what some are saying is true, that DB did it deliberately to make people think about the film.. or to go back to watch the film again.. Then.. well, all I can say is... it is quite an impractical expectation.. that a sizable number of people will watch a film like DBB again in the theatres.. a repeat audience sizable enough to make any difference to the collections (yea, yea.. he probably didnt think about it that way.. in terms of money.. but just saying.. )

If DB always wanted to make a film like this and YRF knew it, then YRF should have acted with more common sense and done its best to promote this film.

In the end, YRF acted like its usual weird way and DB made the film the usual DB way...

And film's fate is also turning out to be like the usual fate of most of the poorly promoted YRF films and DB's films.

This wasnt some standalone film.. They bought the rights for 32 books .. So I just wish everyone involved had been a bit more .. careful about it.
Oh well, looks like we'll get a second film anyways... so whatever..

Guess I am just pissed because I wanted the first film of a potential franchise to be a huge hit.

Lunza: A HUGE ditto to your last line. The first movie should've been the cornerstone to a smash hit series. Though I'm relieved that the plans for a sequel are not shelved, it makes me apprehensive of the audiences' reaction for the second film. The saying "First impressions are often the last" would come into play, I'm afraid.

The movie IMO was brilliant to the point of being near-flawless. However, poor promotions (late release of Calcutta Kiss/Back Ke Bakshy videos, not playing them on music channels of both television and radio, very late television appearances), coupled with Fast and Furious, did it in. Plus there's the huge "complicated, intellectual, largely non-massy" element.

They make sequels for everything, just gotta find people willing to put money in it. 😆

So the question is if YRF willing to invest again...and hopefully they're not trying to change things around, like...the cast.

What? Changing the cast? No way. Sushant was amazing as Byomkesh. I can't imagine anyone else from the newer lot as Byomkesh now. And I'm not even being biased while saying this. 😆

I repeat i am hoping they dont make him scape goat and assume a big star could have made things better🥱 Because if u dont promote ur movie and story is flawed even big star movies bomb
Just like Asoka, Mangal Pandey etc
Or even a lootera and Roy

So agree with all the posts here about promotion..I never even saw one promo till the last week before release(not exagerating at all)..anyways the ending of the movie does signify that there will be a sequel
I so want this to be made..please please please
Geez😆

I know Sushant was perfect as Byomkesh and yep I totally agree. I don't think any of his contemporaries could have played him. But not Sushant, my fear is they'll try to change Ajit/Satyawati..or you know they might go for a different villain in the next one or add in some other 'popular' stars as some other characters...cuz many times in sequels they end up changing things to make it 'bigger and better.'

Bingo , my dad was like if they promote movie so late it is gonna flop for sure and he almost confused this with Badlapur whose promos were everywhere every freaking channel and all knew about it but DBB ppl rarely knew only internet audience no wonder only they saw
