There some parts of India that used to do it (I don't know if it still happens)
Some people still do it, it absolutely has nothing to do with Islam,it's more cultural thing
But hey who needs to do some research while we can all jump the gun and demean certain religions

Well, in Europe, the marriageable age for women was around 9-13 years old just 70-100 years ago from what I remember from my research. It is kinda funny when many westerns keep bringing cultural/traditions practices to attack islam or other cultures when their fathers, grandfathers, etc were marrying children just decades ago.

Exactly
The truth is the Islam religion become something anyone trashes
Questions and demeans without proper research, without taking some time to really understand what it's based on...there a lot of bad things people do in the name of religion,
But that's not what the religion is really based on, these people are just using it..
Media are behind the image Islam stands for today...it has nothing to do with the religion I know and practice...for instance the child marriage, it's known fact that people around the world, Islam none Islam use to do it, it was cultural but at the end of the day only Islam takes the fall for it..
How about the fact that people wanna speak for me, people wanna decide for me??
Like how I dress, there some countries who don't let women wear their hijab...who are they to decide what I shld or shldnt wear?? Do you see people calling on them people?? No
People argue that I'm misused, that I'm mistreated, that I live in a worse life than girls arnd the world
Who said this?? I wear hijab or/and I don't yell back at my parents and do or obey their orders, isn't that my choice?? Why wld anyone assume that I'm being mistreated just cuz I don't behave like they do??
Another example people kill people all the time, people bomb people all the time..
I'm yet to hear them being lebeled as terrorists, why is that??
Why aren't they called names?? Why don't they stay in the headlines for days??
People just like pointing fingers without doing proper research...the violent Islam, the abusive of women Islam, the terrorists Islam, all are media made and people are ready to accept it rather quickly

No one has a problem with questioning Islam what most people do is mock it. Drawing pictures of the prophet and mocking it how is that questioning Islam?
Today if i draw a gay couple and mock them i will be called a homophobic, if i draw a photo of the holocaust or even a Jew and mock it i will be called anti-semantic and people won't call it freedom of speech. But being insensitive to Islamic beliefs and mocking their most revered prophet is called freedom of speech. And that's a double standards for me.

Well my problem is the tagging really..
For instant people blv that Islam is abusive of women
Where did this come from??
Did some girls said that they were abused?? If so why lebel it as Islamic thing??
There sick people in every community, a lot none Muslim families abuse their daughters
Why can't we take action against those particular people and leave it at that?
Why can't we say a family did this to their daughters like they wld say abt any none Muslim family?? Why Islam abuse women??
Child marriage is common thing, then why do we need to lebel Islamic thing??
When someone bombs people, why can't we judge the person, take action against them, why do we need to lebel whole community what someone does??
I just don't get it

Who has disagreed to this point? If u check my responses I have named most of the mainstream religions and condemned their use of the practice some years ago..
Thing is none of the other religion governed countries condone it anymore.. Example India - there r LOTS of child marriages happening in rural India. But as per law its not allowed.. A child has a legal right to fight against under age marriage on the basis of being a child.. Am I wrong?

But when u take a lot of Islamic countries this is allowed in law.. A child cannot fight a marriage siting age as a reason even today.

Why take this as an attack on the religion.. I have not disrespected Islam in even a single post of mine.. Just telling about one atrocious practice.. that doesn't belong in the year 2015.
This thread was about such practices in any religion that can be criticized. Instead of accepting that this inhuman practice needs to be removed from its association with religion.. why throw stones at the past of other religions.. They were wrong too then. But they don't do it anymore..at least none of them use religious reasoning to justify it in 2015..

I think you are misunderstanding me. I didn't say you attacked religion at all. The fact I replied to you was because you genuinely wanted to know. I mostly reply to the ones in such issues who genuinely want to know and don't have any other agenda. I was talking about some westerns who keep attacking islam, but completely ignore their own history. For example, they keep making it seem like Muslims are responsible for all the evil when WW1, WW2, and many other wars were started in West, and other such issues. Hypocrisy annoys me. Lies too.

We need to understand one thing, the religion is a way of life. Any religion. You have the freedom to choose to live that life or not. Nobody should mock-question why you chose it or criticise it or demean it just because it is not their way or what they believe in.

As I said earlier, the religion is not bad, it is actually very simple. But the people, the mentality of people, the way people are manipulated - that changes an outsiders perception of the religion.

Re child marriage - There were so many raja's in the history of Hindustan who has close to 100 wives. Why do we never speak about those? Some of those wives were young, very young. There is no point in pointing fingers. It was then. This is now. Most muslims do not marry their girls off until they reach a certain age. And have we not seen that the kind of upbringing you get determines the maturity level you possess?

As regards polygamy, then it is a personal choice. You cannot decide for me what I can and cannot handle in my relationship with my man. There are people who have what you call open marriages in this world, where either partner can bed whosoever he/she wishes other than the spouse. Why is that allowed but polygamy, which is legal, is frowned upon? Another thing that people need to understand is that there are stringent rules that need to be followed if you make the choice to take on more than one wife. And if the first wife cannot handle it, then she has the option of walking out - NOW I will get bashed for saying this, but really when has anything stopped a man from cheating? If he wants to, he will cheat. Marriage or no marriage. It depends on the calibre of the man. Would you rather he cheat? Or come and tell you that he wishes to take on a second wife? Would you rather he went and just did it or would you rather he told you so you knew where you stood and HAD A CHOICE in the matter?

The Prophet and his companions took on more than one wife, yes. But has anyone ever examined who these wives were? Everyone is fixated on the youngest wife and labelling him. What about his first wife who was 15 years senior to him? Or about the widow he married to give her a home and security?

Before labelling or categorising anything as bad, one needs to really understand why such a practice is allowed. If it does not suit you, agree with your sensibilities then that is you, your choice. But do not mock and demean it - THIS causes rifts between people of different religions, or just people.
