Speaking to a news channel, noted actorNaseeruddin Shah has said that producers in Bollywood lack the courage to make movies critical of Islamic practices.

The Naseeruddin Shah starrer 'Dharmsankat' is set to release on April 10. The movie, also starring Paresh Rawal, is said to be critical of religious godmen.

In this context, Shah was questioned why a movie like PK seeks to criticise Hindu customs but does not throw the limelight on Islamic ones. His answer was illuminating.

"This is a question you should ask (PK director) Rajkumar Hirani. Why did he not equally criticise Islamic customs in the movie? In Pakistan they had the guts to produce a movie like Khuda Ke Liye. But no one has dared to make a film like that in India so far. Do you know why?" Shah countered.

A few days ago, Shah had aroused controversy by claiming that 'people in India are brainwashed to believe that Pakistan is their country's enemy', drawing strong reactions from the Shiv Sena in particular.

When questioned about this, Shah said, "It seems we have a deep-seated hatred for Pakistan in our minds. Why is it so? I hope the new generation will not get influenced by the rhetoric that Pakistan is our enemy. This rhetoric will soon meet a deserving death".

Because we are nation filled with pseudo-secular politicians.

They are scared to discuss any other religion. Islam for obvious reasons and others because they will play minority victim card.

I don't entirely agree with the statement on Pakistan not being an enemy at all.

I think the aam junta doesn't consider Pakistan public as an enemy.
It is the ISI they consider as enemy.

Pakistan did, a few years back: Khuda Ke Liye.

And Naseer was a part of that movie.

There are certain practices that are done but are not at all Islamic. But because they have been done over time, repeatedly by muslims, these practices sort of get the 'Islamic practice' tag.
One can make a movie highlighting such issues, such practices without drawing caricatures of the Prophet. There is no need to offend sensibilities of a group deliberately and without valid cause or reason.

This is not to say that #Charlie Hebdo is in any way justified, because it is not.

I also think same but if a movie is made mocking prophet n sahabies than it may actually become a international issue just like danish cartoons. Praying to tooms , men opressing and controlling women in name of religion , thinking women r sole responsible for anything to do with modesty , even men should practice modesty. People can make lot of movies on these topics.

hey Zee...u finally came to BW section😳
And I agree with you, there is a difference between criticizing wrong practices of any religion or culture and just demeaning their religion. While criticism is good for any society and gives it scope to improve, something that looks down upon them doesnt help at all. Afterall, we would still be having a dowry system if Western Education had not taught us otherwise, though Raja Ram Mohan Roy's contribution cannot be overlooked either.

But I dont think people have the guts to make movie on any minority, be it Islam or Sikhism. It is also because if any such movie is made, the protests against it doesnt let it pass the censor board. Even a simple funny movie like Singh is Kingh had so much protests from Sikhs. And Muslims have the highest population in the world, I dont think any movie against Islam's evil practices could be made.
My apologies if my words offended anyone😃
