I didn't know this 😲 😲 now if I think of it, it does seem strange. Both Soundarya and Vishnuvardhan's deaths were unexpected. And their last movies were Aaptamitra and Aaptarakshaka. Really strange. 😲

One reason that I appreciate malayalam movies is that even the big stars keep their ego in check and perform their role without resorting to edit out the other actors' scenes. It is easy to influence producers to make such changes in the name of revenue. I could not tolerate Rajni's version as the husband was reduced to practically being nothing in the movie.

As for BB, I have seen the climax dance by Vidya but that disappointed me so much because comparison with Shobana was inevitable and I just could not appreciate her.

Vineeth was the first choice for that role? 😲 Vineeth and Shobana are cousins? 😲 😲

Oh my...I would have loved to watch them perform together but it would have been extremely awkward since they play lovers in that movie.

@kumro-potash : Tamil version was the first one I watched and I totally loved it but after watching Mz, I just can't sit through the Rajni-drama any more. I'll have to admit, I like that laka laka thing though. 😆 Despite all the irritating tracks in the movie, I love Jyo's performance...she was amazing. Ra...Ra... 😳

I completely agree with you, Vidya becomes Manjulika all of a sudden.😆 No proper character development like in the original. Also the Malayalam version has this real rustic feel to it. As in those little scenes and jokes about the superstitions and the talismans.

Haven't watched the Kannada version but ya I watched the Bhojpuri dubbed version on TV. 😛

@krackjack: Yes, they are cousins otherwise Vineet was the natural choice for any role that had classical dance

Tamil had so much of unnecessary nautanki...like that Aunty with tons of jewellery, Sonu Sood, Rajini - Vadivelu's wife angle. The worst of all, Rajni entering the scene even before the leads and becoming Oh-so-great sacrificing friend. Even 2-3 songs were dedicated to him to showcase his hero-gori. Drama overload. It gets annoying.

Oh! I love the comedy track in BB...Rajpal and Akki were epic...in Malayalam things get lost in translation for me.

Location wise...I love both Malayalam and Hindi wale locations...Alla Hafiz song is beauty.

I saw the malayalam version first and so was screaming at how the story was changed to accommodate Rajni's superstar status and giving him all the screen space.. In the malayalam version Mohanlal enters after nearly half the movie is over and even then the husband does not completely disappear..

As for the comedy, as Priyadarshan put it 'Malayalam humour is like British humour' indicating it is tough for other people to understand as a simple translation will not work.. Priyadarshan himself struggled when he remade all those movies into hindi and he has recounted how David Dhawan who had bought the rights to Hungama's original gave them to PD after trying to figure out for 2 years on how to remake it in hindi..

True. Bhool Bhulaiya was more like a comedy film whereas MCT was mostly a psychological thriller. Actually MCT also had a lot of comedy, but because I don't understand Malayalam so I was not exactly getting the punchlines when i saw it. Comedy tends to loose its sharpness in translation.
And yes Vidya Balan could have done a better job- Shobhna had this subtle expressions, mannerisms showing traits of a mental patient throughout the film. It is not visible at first viewing but someone watching it 2nd or 3rd time can clearly observe it. In BB Vidya Balan's character doesn't go through this gradual transformation at all, suddenly aakhir me jake manjulika bangati hai. Even her Bengali dialogues were very badly written, they made me laugh.
At the end of the day its the director who is the captain of the ship, I still like Bhool Bhulaiya- it was definitely a good one time watch- even has some repeat value too.
P.S.- Looks like u haven't seen the Rajneekanth version😆

i hv seen it... chandramukhi right ? too melodramatic though jyotika i guess dats her nm i guess did a gud job...nd 'ra ra' song was gud... i actually saw all these movies after watching BB, since i really liked vidya's act, but yes, if i had some those versions already vidya wouldn't hav impressed me much, but she was lucky lol 😆
