Yep. I have watched the movie countless number of times. And Shobhana was brilliant. I am a malayalee and I watched the original manichitratazhu long back. So its difficult for me to even watch the remade versions. Bhool bhulaiya was a ditto copy but still I felt like it lacks something. Vidya was too gud but I dont want to compare her with Shobhna. I did not even try to watch other versions. ..
This is the first time I am visiting this forum, and I got an awesome topic 😃

😆 no soundarya died in plane crash

vishnuvardhan died in 2009

i think its just made up story and the incidents during filming of apthrakshaka was gimmiks

It's an amazing movie... I don't think any of the remakes have come anywhere close to it.

One of the best movies ever made in india...
N shobhana was brilliant in it ... no other actress could do justice to the role as she had done , n also the original malayalam wins by a long margin if u take the movie as a whole

the dance part ... out of the world ... ofcourse she is a trained dancer but the grace is unmatchable

i have had the fortune of seeing her perform live in the temple near my house , n she is mesmerising ...

then comes revathi's dance number in devasuram ... outstanding , n she hasn't even studied classical dance

but then they r amazing actresses too ...

The only change I would have liked was to see Vineet as the lover to see him match Sobhana in that climax dance.. But then since they are so closely related I guess that casting had to be discarded..

One reason that I appreciate malayalam movies is that even the big stars keep their ego in check and perform their role without resorting to edit out the other actors' scenes. It is easy to influence producers to make such changes in the name of revenue. I could not tolerate Rajni's version as the husband was reduced to practically being nothing in the movie.

As for BB, I have seen the climax dance by Vidya but that disappointed me so much because comparison with Shobana was inevitable and I just could not appreciate her.

I first watched the Tamil version and loved it. Then I watched the Hindi version and again loved it. At last, I watched the Malayalam version and loved it even more but after that I started to dislike the Tamil version. 😆

Tamil had so much of unnecessary nautanki...like that Aunty with tons of jewellery, Sonu Sood, Rajini - Vadivelu's wife angle. The worst of all, Rajni entering the scene even before the leads and becoming Oh-so-great sacrificing friend. Even 2-3 songs were dedicated to him to showcase his hero-gori. Drama overload. It gets annoying.

Shobana's character was very well established in the movie. In BB, Vidya's character comes into form only in the in the second half whereas Shobana's love for books, her curiosity and all those little things are portrayed very well in the original and these nuances bring about a huge difference to the character. And OMG how beautiful does Shobana look in the movie. Absolutely stunning. The innocence, the aggression, the curiosity, the helplessness...everything! It's a treat to watch her perform.

Sorry for all the comparison...couldn't resist. 😛

Oh! I love the comedy track in BB...Rajpal and Akki were epic...in Malayalam things get lost in translation for me.

Location wise...I love both Malayalam and Hindi wale locations...Alla Hafiz song is beauty.

Even I have heard few interesting stories. Some says all the songs in the movie are done in a certain scale that is considered forbidden by classical music teachers. Apparently they never teach that raaga to their students as it is considered to be associated with evil spirits. 😲😲

amazing movie... seen it, but saw it only after BB, and its mindblowing, it deserves the accolades it got, BUT the thing which messmerizes the most that it is based on a real story, and a real tragedy but whenever i google it, i can't find anything about it.. but the makers must have done some good research !!!

however, for BB, I would like to say one thing which people tend to forget, the film focussed far more on Akshay than on Vidya, Vidya only got to prove her worth in the last reels, such sexist is our industry -_- If the film really was made on Vidya in particular she definitely would have gotten all awards for that year. Akshay's histronics are not even with that of vidya but unfortunately he was given all credit of success -_-

True. Bhool Bhulaiya was more like a comedy film whereas MCT was mostly a psychological thriller. Actually MCT also had a lot of comedy, but because I don't understand Malayalam so I was not exactly getting the punchlines when i saw it. Comedy tends to loose its sharpness in translation.
And yes Vidya Balan could have done a better job- Shobhna had this subtle expressions, mannerisms showing traits of a mental patient throughout the film. It is not visible at first viewing but someone watching it 2nd or 3rd time can clearly observe it. In BB Vidya Balan's character doesn't go through this gradual transformation at all, suddenly aakhir me jake manjulika bangati hai. Even her Bengali dialogues were very badly written, they made me laugh.
At the end of the day its the director who is the captain of the ship, I still like Bhool Bhulaiya- it was definitely a good one time watch- even has some repeat value too.
P.S.- Looks like u haven't seen the Rajneekanth version😆

🤣 yes I think exactly like you here.
I haven't seen the Kannad version but i heard that both kannad and tamil- telegu versions deviated a lot from the original story. What even worse is that the makers of Chandramukhi didn't even give the original writer of Manichitathazhu his due credit. 😡 That's very sad considering the writer was as much a hero of the film as Mohanlal and Shobhna. To be honest even the tamil version was entertaining but yes it was certainly not anywhere close to the original.
