@Kabeeraspeaking, thanks for the reply. I agree with your take on this. The only point I want to add is that I feel like there is a hint of cleverness and even manipulation in the way Aamir is responding this time. No one will disagree with him for defending Arpita Khan.
As for the word violence, I completely agree with the PSAs you've used here. I disagree with Aamir using it to describe AIB because the intent was comedy and there was consent of almost everyone involved. The Arpita parts were edited out so I disagree that the part that was shown was violent.
@first bold: I think the Aamir effect + benefit of revision likely makes it seem that way 😆
@later bold: (1) Many times these words (hoe, fag, etc.) are also used in a humorous manner, between friends or to add colour to stories and conversations...does this minimize their implication or make their use any less harmful? (2) Even if consent is given, is it okay to use racist/sexist slurs to address someone or describe something? (this is essentially the question, 'can you consent to harm?') (3) There were still racist/sexist jokes in the edited show that was uploaded online (skin colouring of one of the comedians and female objectification/body shaming)...so would that constitute as violent or not?
Just some questions for fun/thought/discussion...nothing serious, feel free not to entertain them. Time for me to get back to work.
