I SAW IT!! YAYYY!!!
Sonam was strictly decent. She's not bad, but I think when you see it, you'll see that some of the writing isn't as strong for her character as it is more Rajkumar's character. Honestly, I loved her WAY WAY WAY more in KS. If KS was 2 steps in the right direction for her growth as an actor, DKD was one step back. There's some great comedic parts but the script lacks parts where you geniunely feel for her. It's hard to root for a "grey" (using that term loosely) character when we're as an audience not given those moments. I end up feeling bad for Sonu but not Dolly. I end up rooting for him and not her. Pulkit's character doesn't have much to do--they didn't even do a good job with that Robin-Dolly angle. I don't want to spoil the end, but I had mixed feelings about it. It goes with the overall tone/theme of the film, but it's a step backwards in terms of character development from the climax point onwards. Like I said, I don't want to spoil it for others. But I'd be interested in talking via PM about if anyone else felt that way too or discuss afterward the majority of the Sonam fans have seen it.
Overall, it's a pretty fun film and if the music was better then it'd be doing so much better.
Sonam was great with what she was given, but like I said the script was not that great. Varun was cute--he was so much like Choocha from Fukrey. 😆 Pulkit was meh. Rajkumar stole the show. His diction is so good. I wish Sonam and Rajkumar could do a film together where both are paired opposite each otehr--their chemistry is so organic and raw. It's a nice energy.
Saif was an interesting addition. I felt like he was there for gimmick purposes, but I'd be interested to see him and Sonam do something together one day.
FYI: Sonam looks like a dream in this movie. Like dayummm! I love the scene where she wakes up and Robin is staring at her. She looks so innocent and simple and breath-takingly beautiful.
