PK Grosses 368 Crores Worldwide At The Box Office

PK being Aamir Khan's Christmas release performed excellently at the box office. The film, post Day 8, has grossed 283 crores in India. The collections are significant considering the film has only completed a week.

Since it is a vacation season in the overseas circuit too, the film has grossed 85 crores+ in the international circuit.

PK has received brilliant responses and the film is expected to have long run considering there are no other releases slated for the year. The film truly ended 2014 on a good note and while the first two weeks of December have been quite disappointing for the Bollywood business, it seems that PK has washed off the gloom and is ready to make and break some big records.

The film is currently the seventh highest worldwide grosser with 368 crores gross collections worldwide. The overseas collections are yet to come out, which will add up more in PK's worldwide total.

PK' witnessing unprecedented growth trajectory: Disney India

Christmas and New Year season seems to have spelled magic for Aamir Khans latest release PK as the movie is doing phenomenally well not only in India but in the international market too. Vinod Chopra Films and Rajkumar Hirani Films, in association with Disney India, released PK' Dec 19 and since then it has been soaring high at the box office both in India and abroad.

PK' has performed exceptionally well in India and many international markets, and with each day of its theatrical run, the movie is setting new benchmarks in many countries! Our distribution strategy ensured a wide availability for the movie across countries in all key centres.
"The film has performed phenomenally well - and is now the highest grossing Hindi film ever in its first week in India, North America, Australia and many more. Most importantly, the movie has seen an unprecedented growth trajectory. The occupancy rates in most theatres all over have been very encouraging. We look forward to a long theatrical run for the movie!," said Amrita Pandey, VP and Head of Marketing and Distribution, Studios, Disney India.
Back home, PK' has collected Rs.182.58 crore in the first week. On Christmas Day itself, the Rajkumar Hirani directorial collected Rs.27.55 crore in India.
The film also stars Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjay Dutt.

Bollywood's 200 Crore Club

In August last year, we saw Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone going all guns blazing with Chennai Express. While the film went on to become one of the biggest hits crossing the 200 crore barrier, it was soon followed by Krrish 3 becoming the next entrant into the club, a feat soon followed by Aamir Khan's Dhoom 3 and the Jacqueline Fernandez-Salman Khan starrer Kick. However, the latest entrant is the recently released Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer Happy New Year.

In this edition of Box Office Report Card, we take a look at the films that have managed to break the barrier of Rs. 200 crore. In a comparative analysis we pit the cast, director and of course the five films to break this mark against each other.

Interestingly, while Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots that released in Christmas in 2009 took 70 days to cross the mark, SRK's film did the same in just 15 days. Krrish 3, on the other hand, took just 10 days to make it into the 200 crore club. Later another Aamir Khan starrer, Dhoom 3, managed the same in under 10 days, establishing a new record of becoming the fastest film to reach the Rs. 200 crore mark.

Apart from this, below we list a few unknown factoids about the Rs. 200 Crore Club members:

* Chennai Express managed to break 3 Idiots record (of entering the 200 crore club) after approximately 1267 days/181 weeks. However, Krrish 3 managed to break Chennai Express' record of entering the 200 cr club after 80 days. Aamir Khan's Dhoom 3 followed right after breaking Krrish 3's record within 50 days. On the other hand, it took Kick a total of 11 days to enter the 200 cr club. However, Happy New Year has managed to set a new record by entering the 200 cr club in just 19 days.

* Aamir Khan achieved this milestone when he was 45 years old, while Shah Rukh Khan achieved it closer to his 48th birthday. However, Hrithik Roshan is the youngest actor to enter the club achieving this milestone closer to his 40th birthday, while Salman Khan achieved this milestone after 48.63 years. However while Aamir Khan was earlier the only star to have two 200 crore blockbusters to his name, Shah Rukh Khan has joined him too.

PK Chances Of 50 Crore Second Weekend - Day Eight Rock Steady

PK may set a new benchmark of a 50 crore nett second weekend which would be a first and to put this number into perspective is that only two films have crossed 50 crore nett in the whole second week.

The film has grossed a huge 13 crore nett as per early estimates on its eight day and this gives it a shot of getting 50 crore nett in its second weekend. The film did not have that huge start with only South India being up to expectations on day one but from Sunday when the family audiences came the film has broken records everywhere.The fall from day one is likely to be around 50%.

The film is on a dream run now and on course to set records in most circuits including Mumbai where 3 Idiots still holds the all time record. A few of the smaller circuits do not look like hitting record levels at the moment but if it goes on a run into week four and week five then record totals could happen everywhere.

PK will become the first Hindi film to cross $10 million in US/Canada. It will be the first time that the $10 million marked is crossed in any overseas market. 3 Idiots was the first film to cross $5 million in US/Canada in 2010.

Last year Dhoom 3 set a record in US/Canada by grossing a little over $8 million and it looks like that PK may well beat that and become the highest grossing Hilm in US/Canada in just ten days. The collections for PK in week one are $6.2 million approx with Christmas Day showing a good spike in collections..

The final business of PK is US/Canada will go over $10 million and could even go to $12 million.
