PK Has Huge Opening At Multiplexes

PK has had a huge opening at multiplexes recording morning occupancies of around 70%. The big cities are excellent and cities like Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore may put up record first day figures. The opening is less in some places like UP and Gujarat but the film has the highest ATP (average ticket prices) and the highest capacity ever even though the screen count is not the highest ever.

This should mean that the film should compensate for the weaker areas by huge huge business in multiplexes of big cities. Also the places like UP and Gujarat are not bad but just not as huge as metros. There block bookings from corporates for shows after 3pm also which means the afternoon and evening shows in metros will show even better occupancies.

The expectations are huge not just from an opening point of view but in the long run as the team as 3 Idiots behind them and it will be the weekdays which will decide if these expectations are met. The success of the film is not really an issue as this sort of initial almost ensures that.

Just came back from PK .An overwhelming experience .The best film of the year by far .Nothing even remotely comes close .It is probably after a long long time I have feel so satisfied wathing a Bollywood movie .The film follows the same trajectory as previous RajKumar Hirani movies in terms of content .He takes a socially relevant topic(in this case religion) and garnishes it so well with everything in just right proportion .The results are remarkable yet again .

PK has an interesting start when an alien lands on the earth but he is unable to return to his planet because a device goes missing .The film is a roller coaster ride from this point with several hilarious moments .The first half is a pure gem in terms of writing ,material and execution .The comic scenes brought the house down and the emotional moments made me moist eyed.

The film film feels extremely relevant because it talks about atrocities that is being committed today in the name of religion .And it does this without getting preachy and verbose .Actually there is no dull moment here. One of the most entertaining films to come out of Bollywood .

On the flip side ,the concept comes bit too close to recent OMG :OH MY GOD .Thankfully the execution is quite different from that film .Also the songs could have been a lot better .They gel well with the film but there is not a single song that you carry home .However the way 'Bhagaan Kahan Hain tu' song has been executed is a master stroke .A work of genius..

Aamir Khan delivers what is arguably the best performance of his career .He is simply adorable and his eyes speak volume when he is unable to speak initially. His Bhojpuri acent is bang on the target and one of the reason why this performance works so well. Also he looks quite young in the film .He is simply the soul of PK.

Anushka is a livewire .Her looks are unflattering but that stopped mattering for me after a point because she delivers a charming performance .She slowly grows on you .

Sushant has a terrific screen presence and leaves a huge mark in short role.Sanjay Dutt was endearing .Saurabh Shukla is a scene stealer.Boman has no scope.Ranbir Kapoor brings the house down with his special appearance .

Spoilers

This is basically a typical Raju Hirani with several poignant and hilarious moments .Some of these are still playing in my mind as I type this. Some samples

-The entire track between Sanjay Dutt and Aamir Khan in Rajasthan is howlarious .Never laughed so much .

-The whole 'Hey Bhagwaan ' song which left me speechless and gave me goosebumps.

-Anushka refusing to believe Aamir Khan initially .

-The entire track when Sarfaraaz resurfaced .The best moment in the film ...

End of Spoilers

Overall a film that restores your faith in Bollywood .A film that makes me a Bollywood fan all over again .I plan to revisit this film again and again .This film will catch like a wildfire and emerge an All Time Blockbuster .A must see

#PK is #ET (one of my all time fave Spielberg films), about a lost visitor who wants to phone home, but he's scuppered by wrong numbers

Is PK a family movie? Can 8-10 year-olds watch it? AK's nude look put me off from advance booking. Waiting for reviews before I decide to go with my family.

PK Hindi Movie Review

(Taran Adarsh is no longer reviewing movies while Anupama Chopra will not review this movie as it is her home production)
Ratings:4.5/5 Review By: Bollywood Hungama Site:BollywoodHungama
Though the storytelling is seamless, PK does seem to lack the punch that his earlier films had. Though the screenplay (Abhijat Joshi and Rajkumar Hirani) of the film is comprehensive and engrossing, with humorous situations and entertaining dialogues, the narrative does get slow at a certain points. PK however hits the right notes and entertains. On the whole, Aamir Khan's PK is a solid entertainer that will surely entertain the masses and classes alike. An outstanding film. Go for it.

PK movie is all that you anticipated, a paisa-vasool entertaining movie that will enthrall you for sure. PK is a must and should theater watch, so book you tickets soon and catch the movie on the big screen. The film has a lot of hilarious and fun moments but the hidden social message is what PK is all about. In a way you can say the movie is a satire on God and God fearing men. But it is unlike any typical Bollywood movie based on the same concept as Hirani has ensured to provide us with utmost entertaining experience with this movie.

PK has ample surprises which unfold layer by layer remarkably. But one thing, which needs to be made clear is that PK is not a out an out comedy-caper as its trailer and songs have hinted towards yet carrying the same thought-process while stepping into the theatres won't disappoint you. While there is a serious subject Rajkumar Hirani is dealing with and his ways of presenting the entire issue turns out to be humorous.
