I remember during the whole Deepika cleavage controversy/Harvard students giving powerful message topics in this forum, there were a lot of people who kept using the word pseudo feminism. And then there were people who jumped and said what is pseudo feminism and criticizied such idiotic pseudo feminism rant on topic. So when I came across this news story, I thought of writing about what pseudo feminism probably is in the forum.

If you are aware of the Rohtak sister controversy, please skip through the details of the controversy stated below.

If you are active on social media, I am sure you must have come acorss the braveheart Rohtak sister video that went viral. Two girls from Rothak beat the shit of their molestors in a bus while travelling.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ZopUkgU7CSw

Once the video went viral, people on the Internet apllauded the act and started calling them the braveheart rotak sisters.Huge number of likes and shares, the video automatically made it's way to television and newspapers. The Haryana Government even decided to honour them for their bravery. All was fine, until a few days later another old video of theirs surfaced on the internet doing what they did in the bus-beating guys in a park.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=o2oHtypZ560

Suddenly the whole incident became controversial as people started questioning the credibility of the sisters. The Haryana Government decided to withhold the bravery award .The same social media that made her a braveheart started seeing it as a gimmick. The initial video was curated by a popular FB page called The Logical Indian. The very same page shared the second video and decided to investigate the case because the video became viral because of the same page.

A journalist and documentary filmmaker Deepika Bharadwaj along with The Logical Indian then decided to investigate further and this is what they found out (according to The Logical Indians)

Few passengers and residents of the Rohtak Sisters' village have come forward with testimonies and affidavits to support the three youths currently under arrest. One of the witnesses in her affidavit said that she had asked Kuldeep, one of the accused men, to buy a ticket for a woman, who was unwell. She said, "The two girls were already sitting on seat No. 8 which was allotted to the ill woman. He requested the girls to vacate the seat for the sick woman and even showed the ticket to them. Then, he told the sick woman to sit on some other seat but the girls became abusive. The woman said that the girls then attacked him with belts from behind and even the man jumped out of the bus when it slowed down. The Logical Indian community believes that the boys do not deserve anybody's sympathy if they were molesting the girls. But till the truth is proven, let us avoid being judgmental and pass quick justice on the basis of diaphanous evidence.

This is what they shot questioning some witnesses about the Rohtak sisters.

And today, another video shot by Deepika has been uploaded by the Logical Indian where they come to know about more such threats given by the Rohtak sisters through a few more witnesses.

I didn't want to write so much about the whole history behind the issue but since this forum has a lot of members who probably would'nt know about the issue, I thought of including the whole story.

We have had innumerable discussions about women empowerment and safety in this forum right from the Deepika cleavage controversy and one argument that has been consistent is about pseudo feminism. This is to those who probably were rolling eyes or reacting in bewilderment when some of the members were ranting about how feminism is overrated in social media with all the pseudo feminism, etc.Sorry but such a thing does exist in this age of social media. And this whole Rohtak sisters controversy is an evidence of that.
It took just one video by a social media page for people to judge the guy who had 'harrased' the sisters in the bus.The guys were going to join the army but their application might not be considered since the authorities have said there's no place for such men in the army. The guys were arrested without any investigation but only by seeing the video footage.
I have seen that not just in other social media platforms like Facebook, etc even in this forum, judgements regarding such cases are passed off very easily (I must confess, I have done that too many times). It takes no time for people in the forums and social platforms to call India a country of horny uncles and boys but can I please request people to read very side of the story before jumping to a conclusion? Especially in a time like now women safety is as important as gender equality in the country.I won't deny that women are not safe in India at all which is because of men, but it's because of some men,not all.

I am not articulate at all, so incase you are still wondering what was the point of the topic, I just wanted to say please think and then pass a judgement before generalizing every man living in India which I feel is done a lot by pseudo feminists.

I came across an article in my city a few days ago where a guy was stipped ,tied to a pole and beaten up by a mob only because a girl had scramed and they came to attack him without even knowing what he had done.

Aliens in the city: Some get thrashed, some helped.By Hemanth Kashyap, Bangalore Mirror Bureau | Dec 4, 2014, 04.00 AM IST. It was an evening scene playing out with routine regularity on the streets of Kanakapura. Businesses were winding down and people were headed home on Tuesday. Suddenly, the loud cry of a girl rang out. Within minutes the crowd were baying for the blood of the alleged heckler. They pounced on an Oriya youth who was passing by believing him to be the culprit. He was stripped, tied to a tree and brutally assaulted before someone called the police control room and the police arrived on the scene to rescue him.

Aliens in the city: Some get thrashed, some helped
A video grab showing the young man being assaulted by the mob
A girl's cry sparks blind rage; Oriya youth becomes scapegoat

While the 30-year-old is undergoing treatment at Victoria Hospital, only one person has been arrested for the assault despite scores of people raining blows on him. Ironically, no one has come forward to complain about sexual harassment, perceived or real. On the other hand, there is only one witness to state the assault was triggered by misunderstanding.
With not a single day passing without a sexual harassment or child abuse case making the headlines, the stress seems to be taking a toll on Bengalureans. "People seem to be determined to teach a lesson to those who harass women even if it means taking the law into their hands. This could at times result in such a misunderstanding,'' said a police official.
Meanwhile, the incident at Kanakpura was triggered off around 8.15 pm when the victim, Sharath Kumar, was walking near Chunchagattha main road in Kanakapura. The native of Orissa, who has been living in the area for the past 12 years along with his family, is a small-time businessman dealing in plastic. He was walking on the footpath when he spotted a few girls coming from the opposite side. He says it was a little dark and fearing he might bump into one of them, he tried to bend and move out of their way when his hand accidentally touched someone. Sharath says suddenly someone screamed from behind and people started thrashing him.
"Sharath has stated he didn't do anything. He tried to move away from the group of girls apprehending he might bump into them as the place was already cramped when someone screamed and people started beating him up. His clothes were removed, he was tied to a tree and the assault continued," DCP, South, Lokesh Kumar said.
Police say around 100 people had gathered and everyone was raring to take a swipe at him, though most were clueless about the reason. While Sharath was being mercilessly thrashed and blood was spurting from the various wounds inflicted on him, two persons alerted the police control room. A team led by J P Nagar police inspector rushed to the spot and rescued Sharath and immediately shifted him to Jayanagar hospital, then to Nimhans and finally to Victoria hospital where he is recovering. When police started investigating the case, they instantly hit a roadblock. They didn't get any answers to why Sharath was beaten up.

______________________________________________________

The police couldn't investigate further because neither did the girl lodge a complaint about the passer by harrasing her nor did the mob know why were the hitting the guy. While such things look good in movies like Mardaani but in reality, people really need to know the whole thing and hear both the sides of the story before pouncing upon someone who hasn't even commited the crime.

Anyways,I hope I have been successful in trying to prove a point. And repeating it again, please stop being a pseudo feminist and calling every rnadom guy walking on the street a sick horny bas***d.

I know this topic is irrelevant to the Bollywood section but we do discuss every random thing under the sun in this forum, including such issues, so I request the mods to not close the topic. If it's still inappropriate, please feel free to move to the debate section.

TFS.. 😊

I hope the message sinks in & people realize that there are two sides to a coin.. stereotyping a gender as a victim or even as a culprit is unfair to human beings in totality.. wish , a day comes when we are human beings first & men-women afterwards..double standards goes both ways..

I don't know about feminism or psuedo feminism...My stand is always on the ISSUE and never on GENDER...I didn't support Preity but I supported Deepika...but when we talk about such big issues like rape or mistreating women...sometimes people tend to use phrases like ALL MEN...but it doesn't literally mean ALL MEN...it is just a way to show how big and wide spread a problem is...

But do you realize what happens because of that ? .. stereotyping the entire male species whenever such things happens is detrimental to humanity in totality , the topic post explains how..

Rather than giving any term i think these are example of media trial, mob trail and social media trial etc. Yes may be those girls are con on the same time these reaction we get because issue like eve teasing etc. is a reality.

here we have such example simultaneously we have many examples where girls gang raped , and when they dare to file complaint they burnt to death. Mostly we are mute spectator in eve teasing etc. if we hear more voice against these than its good rather than bad. These are reality we live in a society these things happen and certainly these issues will dilute when we make that male vs. female issue . Agree these generalisation is harming the objective rather than helping it. It should be against rapist / eve teaser etc. but simultaneously when some one raise these issues like eve teasing etc. they have some truth fact and substance in it. We cant discard them by just branding with some feminist , pseudo feminist etc. just like this rohtak incident is fake simultaneously there are thousand incidents which might be true.

Feminism or pseudo feminism is not the problem. Mob justice, social media frenzy and bandwagon phenomenon are the real problems here.

I roll my eyes at the shares on Facebook or forwards on Whatsapp. People are sharing bullshit as "incredible facts".

This bullshit made viral by mindless social media junkies is not only tarnishing feminism but it tarnishes almost every cause out there.
