Halfway thru Happy New Year. Farah walks that line between spoof & tribute again. A little too self aware but this ensemble is mostly fun.

Happy New Year starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan and other releases today, 24th Oct. Here is the spoiler free movie review of the film.
Plot-
Happy New Year, an usual revenge saga revolves around how Charlie (Shah Rukh Khan) decides to take a revenge from (Jackie Shroff) for his father's (Anupam Kher) death by stealing diamonds from him. Charlie decides to form a team of 5 people who are losers but excel in one important quality required for stealing. To make the theft successful, Charlie and his team have to participate in W.D.C i.e. World Dance Championship. All the 5 members are terrible dancers and hence they decide to rope in Mohini (Deepika Padukone), a bar dancer to train them in dancing. Once the team reaches Dubai, the real drama starts. Will the team succeed to participate in the dance competition? Will they be able to steal the diamonds? Find out the answer in a theater near you
Direction-
Happy New Year marks the return of Farah Khan after not so successful Tees Maar Khan. Her direction is a mixed bag of emotions. Some scenes are very good while some fall flat. Since she was teaming with SRK, more was expected from her side. However full marks to her for the presentation of the film
Music
Vishal Shekhar disappoint big time. Dance based films should have good music and Happy New Year lacks in this dept. The music is no where close to Om Shanti Om. There are some hummable ones though like Manwaa Laage and Indiawaale but much was expected from them.
Technical Aspects-
One of the biggest problem with Happy New Year is the length of the film which is almost 3 hour long. The movie could easily have been shorter by at least 20 mins and a lot of unnecessary forced humor in the first half and a few sequences in the second half could have been easily avoided. The dance rehearsal scenes could have been trimmed and heist/thrill part should have increased. The cinematography by Manush Nandan is top notch and the locales are one of the best seen ever in Bollywood. The action in the film is limited but is used smartly in the film, the standout scenes being SRK's entry scene and the pre climax heist. Background music is good The dialogues are good but could have been much better. Many cult dialogues of Shah Rukh Khan are used in the film time and again which gets repetitive at times
Performances-
Happy New Year rides on the star power of Shah Rukh Khan. The actor brings a lot of energy to the character of Charlie and is a complete charmer on screen right from scene one. The actor excels in all aspects be it action, romance or comedy. If you loved Shah Rukh in Chennai Express, this is a notch higher than his last film. Deepika padukone as Mohini is very effective as always. She sizzles the screen with her dance moves and gets well into the character of a bar dancer and plays a sheet anchor to the entire group. The surprise package of the film is definitely Abhishek Bachchan who manages to evoke few of the funniest moments in the film. The actor seems to be enjoying himself while playing the role of Nandu Bheede. There is another "special" thing about Abhisheks character and he manages to do that in style. Boman Irani, Vivaan, Sonu Sood are decent but their parts could have been better. Anupam Kher and Jackie Shroff are reliable as always.
Verdict-
Overall, despite a few loopholes Happy New Year delivers what it promised to i.e loads of entertainment. The film rides high on the star power and histrionics of Shah Rukh Khan and in a way celebrates Shah Rukh Khan. The film has ample humor, thrill and drama to keep the audiences engaged. Go celebrate your Diwali with Indiawaale at theaters near you.

Story:average predictable

Cinematography: quite good some of the scenes are nicely shot in huge scale
editing: is ok a bit too long but tolerable
actions: forced not needed didn't blend well and the actions are nothing new same old slo mo
