Shahid's a good actor, but Ranbir's far better. It took Shahid a while to showcase his potential. Ranbir's potential was always there from day 1. Ranbir did Rocket Singh and Wake Up Sid two years into his career, with the latter turning into one of those benchmark kinda films. Even with a lousy script in Rockstar, Ranbir stood out. He held the entire film together and was arguably the best part about that film...and lets not forget that that film had the same director whom Shahid also worked with in a film before. However, Shahid had a better costar (Kareena) and script to work with...yet Kareena is the only one who walked away with all the accolades. No one really remembers Shahid from JWM. On the other hand, Ranbir took Imtiaz's much weaker film, with a horrendous costar and gave it weight because of his performance. Ranbir is really the only thing people talk about when they talk about Rockstar - and that says everything right there.

Shahid needs a good director and script to stand out. Ranbir on the other hand kinda just stands out regardless. He's far more effortless and charismatic...and that's where he beats most of these young actors.
