Okay...since you seemed to pick up most of the points I made, could you please also let us know who exactly were these fans who put FFF on a pedestal and dissed other heroine's line-up? Just curious.I have personally not been following any promotions or anything like that...just made a post based on the reviews I read and what little I know of the film. So only because, I felt that you were pointing at me, hence, I am quoting you.I only picked up Barfi because someone else mentioned it. And at that time when Barfi released, Priyanka was a more successful star than Deepika. Isn't that correct?Giving reasons is not equal to making excuses. Two different things.

...OT- Fantastic reviews plus a decent opening for such a movie is all anyone could ask for! Keep rocking DP!<3

FINDING FANNY is unintentionally funny. There are moments in the film (and many at that) when you can't stop yourself from spontaneous laughter. The scenes are so natural and innovative that you cannot but applaud the genius of the cast on screen as well as director Homi Adajania. I bet the scenes were not meant to evoke laughter, but just the genuinity of the situation and the well-orchestrated act leaves you spell-bound.
The entire cast is a riot. Naseeruddin Shah, Deepika Padukone, Dimple Kapadia, Pankaj Kapur and Arjun Kapoor all fit into their role of a Goan with aplomb. My only grouse with Adajania is that the characters were not trained to speak and pronounce the few Goan words used with the proper pronunciation. Nevertheless, this is one film that not only Goans [like me] will enjoy, but also, every film buff. Like the saying goes, 'this work of art is worth going miles to see'. And when was the last time the music left a lasting impression on you? Mathias Duplessy brings in layers to his tunes with textures that are soothing. Even as the end credits were rolling, I refused to leave the theatre. I was busy savouring the moment that just passed by and enjoying the final song. CHECK OUT: FINDING FANNY Music Review Take a bow Homi Adajania and the entire cast and crew of FINDING FANNY. This movie, set in a make-believe village called Pocolim, somewhere in Goa, is deliciously quirky. Deepika Padukone has finally found her foot as an actor. The girl plays Angie, a young widow, with grace. Ferdie (Naseeruddin Shah) has just been returned his letter posted 46 years ago to Fanny, the girl he loved. A bachelor now in in his 70s, he shows the letter to his friend and neighbour Angie. All this while he thought Fanny had rejected him. Now, he sees hope. She had never even received his proposal! Angie urges Ferdie to go out in search of his love. Helping Angie out is her widowed mother-in-law Rosie (Dimple Kapadia), Savio DaGama (Arjun Kapoor) and Don Pedro (Pankaj Kapur), the local artist. This journey of theirs to help Ferdie find Fanny also helps them knock on the door of love. Coming back to Deepika, she charms her way on the screen with her complete understanding of Angie, the bottled up character she plays. Naseeruddin Shah gives a gem of a performance as the lovelorn old man who has suddenly found his joie de vivre. Pankaj as the eccentric artist who has the 'hots' for Rosie is a revelation. Watch the scene when he paints Rosie in an open field. Also watch for Rosie's reaction after the completion of the painting. Dimple is delightful. CHECK OUT: FINDING FANNY Dialogues Arjun Kapoor sheds his angry young man role to play this boy lost in love with imposing impact. And that's the best part of this cast, each has such powerful roles that they don't get into anyone's shoes. Goa is captured beautifully with its villages and road scenes, not to mention the English in which they all speak! FINDING FANNY is a treat for cinema lovers. It's as though filmmakers have finally realized that audiences too have to be respected.

This much promotion is done for almost every movie these days. Only overdone bit in FFF was they overplayed the Bootiya song in music channels. You just couldnt miss it.Originally posted by: Meherbaan
the barfi part yes but about the other topics was the dp fandom in general.
Barfi was not having this kind of hype, the songs were not on the charts but the film did amazingly well because of WOM, it was promoted same way as FFF and both films depends on WOM so I do think they can be compared.
That's back in 2012, yes DP wasn't as famous as today but you are comparing her to a PC, PC was no bigger star back then than today. She has never been a crowd puller, which MK release also shows.
I guess you haven't followed Finding Fanny promotions but everyone who has CAN NOT DENY THAT IT HAS BEEN HEAVILY PROMOTED ON SAME LEVEL AS ANY BIG COMMERCIAL FILM!
1. Posters got out on newspapers.
2. movies stills out
3. Several event in the form of music event etc.
4. Several press interviews, bollywood hungama, rajeev masand, anupama etc.
5. Appeared on all the TV shows: Jhalak, Comedy show etc.
6. 5-6 screenings already attended by almost everyone from the industry who has promoted the film on twitter also.
7. The lead couple appeared on several magazines.
8. Anaita has made sure all magazines are talking about fanny and doing interviews with the director and the leads.
9. Fox promoting it crazily on twitter even ignoring BB and giving full attention on FF! Homi, DP, Arjun, Anaita and other people going crazy with promoting it on social net working sites.
= promoted exactly like khan films, so no excuse like "the film didn't get promoted a lot" can be used here.
and her fans have been going on putting ff on a pedestal claiming it will be a big commercial success and this film will give DP all the awards and other actresses line up is nothing to her 2014 releases.

Fox won't lose money here.
If Maddock had spent 9 crore on making, I'm sure Maddock sold this movie to Fox at 30 crore. Add promotion cost 10 - 12 crore with it. So, Fox need to make 40 crore to recover money. Fox can easily make 40 crore from this movie.
Why 30 crore? As Deepika didn't take a penny.. is sharing profit.. so they need to sell this at at least Rs. 30 crore so that they can pay Deepika 1/3rd of the profit.
30 Crore - Making charge 9 crore = 21 crore profit.
So, Deepika would get 7 crore (1/3rd of the profit)

After working on two different genres in Cocktail and Being Cyrus, director Homi Adajania is all set to explore yet another type through Finding Fanny. The movie starring Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor, Nasseruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur and Dimple Kapadia hits the theatres today. Let's see how it is...
Story:
The story of the movie is based in a Goan village named Pocolim, where Angie (Deepika) the widow of Garbo (Ranveer), lives with her mother-in-law Rosie Eucharistica (Dimple). Angie's only friend is Fredie (Nasseruddin), who lives alone. On fine day Fredie comes to know that it has been 46 years and the love letter which he had written to the woman he loved, Fanny' in fact never reached her.
Angie now sets out on a mission to find Fanny. She is accompanied by her mother-in-law, Savio (Arjun), and painter Don Pedro Cleto Colaco (Pankaj) who has found his muse in Rosie. Will the gang of five be able to find Fanny. That forms the rest of the story.
Plus Points:
Finding Fanny' is not the old and usual Bollywood masala entertainer, which will giggle you throughout without giving much in return. It is rather a madcap film which describes humor in a totally different fashion also teaching some important life lessons. The story of the film is simple yet sweet. Each character has played its part extremely well
(Even though it's a known fact, but) Deepika is gorgeous. She is not only beautiful in her simplest form, but also a power-house of talent. There is no one in the industry that could have played the part of Angie with such perfection and ease. Arjun Kapoor is sure a find for the industry. He plays the part of a spoilt and loud brat with excellence. Arjun excels especially in the parts where he screeches and shouts at Dimple.
Homi had said that he couldn't have done Finding Fanny without Nasseruddin Shah, and we second him in this. The movie couldn't have been a delight if it wasn't for a legend like Nasser. His innocence is endearing. Pankaj Kapur sure has the capability of molding himself as per his roles. His character may appear pervert but with such charm. Dimple Kapadia again is a sheer brilliance. She makes your crack up and cry at the same time, from the first scene till the last.
Minus Points:
The script may be the loophole here. There are a few scenes in the film which are left unexplained till the end, or not given much thought. For example, the climax part where Pedro's painting is published in the newspaper. How does that happen is a question.
While the climax of the film turns out to be a little predictable, the director very finely covers the flaw up with the tiny twists. Those who are looking for regular masala fun can stay away from this one.
Technical Aspects:
Finding Fanny can be called an interpretation of a book through Homi's eyes. The director exactly knows how to portray each and every single character of his film, in the best way possible. He brought out Deepika's glamour quotient in Cocktail and Finding Fanny is just another revelation for the actress.
The best part about the film that that it has the capability to keep your smile intact on your face throughout. It is such a light story with such a strong meaning that the audiences ought to connect with it. Speaking about cinematography, the movie has been shot brilliantly showing the pleasant Goan and not focusing on the loud and party part of the city. The dialogues take the film to just another level of excellence. The dialogues are the reason that the audiences will develop an emotion towards each character.
Verdict:
On the whole, very rarely does a movie enthrall you to an extent that you feel pleased and relaxed even after coming out of the theatres. The movie is sweet and will somewhere help you discover your own self as well. Do not miss this wonder for the world.
