Katrina badly wanted to be associated with YRF--she thought it was validation of having reached somewhere. YRF generally rewards their loyal actors with bigger films. ETT/JTHJ must have been announced around or before MBKD release. Whispers of Yash Chopra's next would have started much before that...and I'm sure Katrina lobbied for the films.

Doing YRF films was equal to turning an A-lister no matter who the hero of the film was. It still is. That's why Sonam is keeping on saying she made a relationship with YRF through Bewakoofiyan blah blah. If tomorrow Sonam is asked to star in a YRF project opposite Riteish Deshmukh, Sonam and her ilk (Esha, Jacqui, et al) would sign it without thinking twice. Same with Katty she did one with John/Neil, second one with Imran/Ali.

Salman and Aamir saying yes to YRF movies was biggest surprise.. Okay Aamir already did Fannah.. but that was one of Aamir's worst movies. So, people expected Aamir won't do another YRF movie soon. I guess, Katty was hatching imaginary eggs... surprisingly, 'uss se chuza bhi nikal aaya'.

About lobbying for those Khan movies: Every A-lister and wannabe A-lister did lobby for those projects: Priyanka, Deepika, Katrina, Kareena.. all of them. No wonder why Priyanka and Kareena kept on passing snide remarks after Katty bagged those.

The point is, wannabe A-listers never dare to say no to YRF projects. 'Hero A-lister ho, ya naa ho'. Shraddha would have said yes to Aurangzeb if she was one of the wannabe A-listers those days. She could have easily turned her role a bit bigger by massaging Atul Sabarwal's neck or sending shrimp curry to 'Malkin'.
