Singham Returns film review: The first part of film came back in 2011 when Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgan scored big cash on the boards. Singham Returns is one that will remind you the same theme but with some different characters and storyline. The film has the effect of Rohit Shetty's unique action sequences that include, flying cars, lots of explosions and big fat goons being thrown in air by hero. All this comes with some romantic songs in the film making it the perfect action-drama film. A good message has also been tried to spread along with the entertaining two and half hours in the theaters. - See more at: http://boxofficeonly.com/2014/singham-returns-2014-movie-review-first-show-star-ratings.html#sthash.MNY37YOk.dpuf

After fighting Jaikant Shikre in the first sequel, the film has now turned it's location to Mumbai. This time our lead hero Bajirao Singham (Ajay Devgan) is the DCP in Mumbai. Anupam Kher is playing role of Guruji a virtuous leader who believes in clean politics. Due to his actions some of the negative forces are disturbed and they keep on threatening Guruji. A new character of swamiji played by Amol Gupte is now with the dishonest side. Singham intervenes the matter to take care of all of them. And his problems start arising, his constable's car is found with loads of cash in it. Singham loses his job with the label of being corrupt officer. Instead of giving up on these things, Singham rises up and fights back with them all.

Singham Returns Performances of Characters
Ajay Devgan is definitely a perfect person to play the role of raging Singham. His dialogue delivery with confidence and roaring style earns some whistles. The anger that he brings on the screens against the politician makes us to think the same way for a while. Kareena Kapoor on the other hand has done suitably good work in chasing Ajay Devgan. Amol Gupte playing role of Swamiji has done his best, and with his role he makes the viewers to hate him for real. Dayanand Shetty has done great job as he is already living in this role for years through his television serial CID.
Verdict: You must not miss this amazing piece of work by Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgan's combine efforts.

Though the film is slick and technically flawless, its the lack of novelty in the story line which pulls it down
What's it about: The story revolves around Ajay Devgn aka Bajirao Singham, a nonsense cop in Mumbai police, who faces an ordeal when his constable is found dead with an ambulance filled with crores of money. Meanwhile his mentor Guruji, played by Anupam Kher, a party leader, decides to back the candidature of young deserving candidates. Irked by this decision from Guruji, alliance party leader Zakir Hussain and evil godman Amol Gupte hatch a plot to assassinate Anupam Kher. Will Singham find the murders of the constable and foil the plan of the baddies to kill Guruji?

What's good: Director Rohit Shetty is a master of his craft, when it comes to the technicalities of the film. The fight sequences are brilliantly executed and are exhilarating to watch. The camera work in the movie spot on. Ajay Devgn as a strict police officer shines, emoting with his eyes and packing a punch with his deadly dialogues and high octane stunts. Infact, it is Devgn's earnest performance which makes the film worth watching. It is refreshing to see Dayanand Shetty play a cop in the film other than his popular TV series CID. Ironically, his name in the film is also Daya and the scene where he breaks the door gets massive applause from the audience. Since the film is set in Maharashtra, Rohit Shetty has used Marathi dialogues generously, adding to the authenticity of the film. There a few scenes which stand out in the film like the Singham's intro scene or the one where our hero is confronted and shamed by a woman for beating his son.

What's bad: Though the film has two villains in the form of Amol Gupte and Zakir Hussain, but the film's main villain is its weak script which has nothing new to offer. Kareena Kapoor tries hard to impress in a poorly etched role as Singham's fiance. The pretty lady has nothing much to do and even the absence of her character would not have made any difference to the plot. The romance between Ajay and Bebo is thanda and the jokes are far from being funny. Amol Gupte has got the right body language to play a con man disguised as godman, but it is his over enunciation of every word which annoys us a little. The film has some serious logical lapses and the baddies aren't menacing enough to give Singham a tough competition.

What to do: While Singham Returns is a must watch for every Rohit Shetty fan as the director dishes out a typical masala film, the ones who look for emotional connection with films may stay away from this Independence Day release. Watch it if you have nothing else to do this weekend.

Singham Returns- Singham Returns, not his magic!
By Divay Agarwal - 8 hours, 21 minutes ago
2.5/5
Verdict - Ajay as Singham shines but nothing else! Prakash Raj is deeply missed.
In 2011, Singham came, roared and captured many hearts & a lot was expected from this super-cop as he came out of his den yet again with Singham Returns. Unfortunately, despite Ajay Devgn's immense efforts, it ended up being a disappointing & confused action thriller. For me, the main spoiler was Kareena Kapoor with her over-energetic and over-enthusiastic portrayal.

The plot starts with a police constable being found dead along with an enormous sum of money and is later on charged of being corrupt. The now DCP Singham, discovers the conspiracy behind it and also its masterminds who then kill Singham's mentor and a noble politician, Guruji. How Singham tackles these gundas and once again saves the state is the story that follows.

Rohit Shetty tries really hard to make the sequel grand by inducing more power politics, more singham powers, more big actors, more nonsensical comedy, more over the top action, more save the country philosophy, more social messages ,more media, more glamour & definitely more Cars' but it's nothing more than a failed over-ambitious attempt.

He overdid a lot of Singham elements especially Aata Majhi Satakli which kept repeating in every ten minutes. However, the quality of film-making surely improved for Rohit. The way Singham Returns was shot was very vibrant and appealing to the eyes. The Rohit Shetty crew really deserves all the credit to take his technical skills a level up.

The movie's runtime was almost two and a half hours which seems way too long - bad piece of work from the editor. The scope for cutting down illogical Kareena Kapoor scenes was enormous.

An alternate name for the movie could easily have been Cars Return. The movie starts with a car show and ends with a car show. And in every possible action scene you see cars flying, colliding, bombing, crashing and what not. Also , to my amaze, the central minister's car is not bullet proof nowadays. To top it all, the DCP' Singham now drives a pink' coloured Zen Estilo' instead of his usual and more manly Scorpio. Why Singham Why?

The music is average and there is no exceptional song that just makes you go wow! Though Aata Majhi Satakli is catchy, I find it really shitty and irritating with all those crab hands. This music album didn't really work out for Meet Bros Anjjan.

As I kept watching the movie, I Just realized that its only Ajay Devgn who can totally pull off a Singham and the sole reason for it is his intensity which cannot be matched by any of his counterparts. His eyes are just enough to make you believe that a super-cop like Singham could exist and his voice and delivery makes ordinary dialogues look real classy. If Singham works for me, it is only Ajay who makes it happen.

As much as Ajay was brilliant in his portrayal, Kareena was dreadfully irritating as Avni. This was perhaps the most over-acting done by her after Main Prem Ki Deewani Hun. Probably If she would not have been in the movie, I would have given it an extra star. I know I am being harsh, but seriously, I just can't help it.

Amol gupte really tried hard to do a Prakash Raj but failed terribly. He was far from menacing and his caricatured character made it worse. Also, the Amercian Dasiyan never really helped. Dayanand Shetty aka Daya is Daya, Cut-Copy-Paste from C.I.D. There is also a special sequence where Singham order Daya- Daya Darwaza Tod. Ashwini Kalsekar did okay playing the stereotypical media journalist rather a Barkha Dutt copy. Zakir Hussain is average and offers nothing different or new. Anupam Kher is average in his short and very predictable character. Mahesh Manjrekar suits perfectly in his role of the righteous politician. Sameer Dharmadhikari, Pankaj Tripathi have been poorly utilized. A special mention to the actress who played the dead police constable's wife had a sequence with Ajay Devgn in which she was amazing. Also, Ashok Saraf (from Singham 1) too was missed.

In all, Singham Returns is yet again a Ajay Devgn show but this time with no one there to support him.

Singham Returns Movie Review: Tried and tested formula film that will not let you down

What if Hollywood has Spiderman and Superman, Bollywood too has our own "aata-majhi-satakli" Sigham. The Hollywood heroes are either born with such powers, or have to get bitten by some lizard or spider to get such super powers, but our Sigham doesn't have any such background. He can shoot criminals armed with the AK 47 rifles and missile launchers - all with his 9mm calibre gun without getting hit. When he removes his shirt and walks on the road, every police officer in Maharashtra walks with him (Yes! without shirt).

His bullet injury gets cured in 5 days (We know he is not Wolverine). His superpowers also include crossing the Rs 100 crore mark at the box-office in just a week.

Singham Returns has its own set of pros and cons, but the film is worth your money. Ajay Devgn as a fearless and honest cop is unlikely to let you down. But you have to give him liberty to all the unbelievable things which he does.

How is Singham Returns different from Singham?
The look and feel of the film is the same as the first instalment in the Singham series. Characters of Singham Returns are inspired from real life people. The first half of the film is a bit slow and tad boring, but the film picks well in the second half.

How is Rohit Shetty's direction?
Cars, more cars, some more cars, and more cars. Blast! Blast! Blast! Rohit Shetty's style of direction is so similar that we believe we should copy and paste the answer to this question in all our future reviews of Rohit Shetty's films.

How are Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor?
Ajay Devgn's acting is the backbone of the film. Kareena is there just as an eye candy to the soul of the movie - Singham - as there is not much space for her to show her acting prodigy. People loved Ajay Devgn's character in the first film of the Singham franchise, so Rohit has hardly made any changes to his character. In fact, he has used quite a few dialogues that you have already heard in the previous installment.

Big Question - Should I watch the film?
Singham Returns is an average film backed by good performances and action. Spending money on this Rohit Shetty's film will not give you heartburns. But do keep your expectations in check. Those who loved Singham are likely to enjoy his return on the big screen.

The deadly combination of Ajay Devgan and Rohit Shetty has hit the jack-pot yet again. The duo has entertained the viewers with the 'Golmal' franchise. This time, 'Singham Returns' goes a step ahead of its prequel 'Singham'. This is a much entertaining, refreshing and mind blowing version. Ajay Devgan plays a cop, DCP Mumbai. Anupam Kher, guruji, wants black money back and he sees an end of a big menace after this. Amol Gupte, is the game spolier. He weaves a plot against them and ensures that 'Baji Rao Singham' is trapped in his own web. But like a typical Bollywood film, the hero emerges victorious. Amol Gupte astonishes you, if he can bring tears in your eyes with the sensitive prtyal of a young boy in Hawa Hawai, he can make you twist your fist in anger in 'Singham Returns'. Kareena Kapoor Khan is a brings a breath of fresh air. She does what she can do too well. Her fiery tongue and chirpy dialogues makes her look cute. What is interesting is the fact that she doesn't look like a married woman. The film has plenty of one-liners, witty dialogues you will carry home. Ajay is unbeatable. No one can question the success of this film. The timing of its release will give it an extra benefit. Patriotism flows in our veins during this period and the makers of 'Singham Returns' en-cash on it well. A must watch if you like the cheering, whistling and clapping in the halls. Don't apply much brain in calculating and matching the logic. Just go and enjoy!

In Rohit Shetty's latest family-friendly piece of entertainment, cars somersault, guns blaze, cops sail through the air, politicians are described as pimps and godmen openly lust after their female devotees. Kids will totally love the gesture, probably borrowed from Asterix comics, of cops tapping their fingers on their temples to mime the movie's main tagline "Ataa majhi satakli" (I have finally lost it), while the several lakh Indians who recently reaffirmed their faith in Parliament and voted in a new prime minister with a thumping majority might just wonder whether the anti-legislator rhetoric is outdated. Shetty tries to do a Shankar in Singham Returns, the sequel to the 2011 Hindi remake of the Tamil movie Singam. A vigilante movie that smartly lands its punches and punch dialogue is well suited to provide unreal solutions to very real problems, but Shetty also wants to change the world, one car blow-up at a time. In between the runs-in with thugs and masked gun-men, there are pleas for a better tomorrow, candle-light vigils and speeches to the media to behave. Yet, Shetty doesn't possess the Tamil filmmaker's ability to package his fascistic vigilante politics with visual flourishes. Singham Returns's impoverished production values and flat lighting are glaringly evident throughout its 142-minute running time. Most of the budget appears to have been splashed on overhead helicopter-enabled views of Mumbai and the spectacular action sequences, which remain the movie's main and only draw. Ajay Devgn's ultra-honest police officer and one-man military continues to roar his way through a jungle of corruption of moral decay, with his new prey taking the form of Amole Gupte's unholy preacher and Zakir Hussain's crooked politician. Singham's rage is stoked first by the death of one of his men who is accused of corruption, a word and state alien to the Maharashtra police force, and then by the death of Anupam Kher's saintly Gandhi-meets-Hazare politician. In between meting out off-the-books punishment, Singham carries on an indifferent romance with a manically ebullient Kareena Kapoor Khan, who replaces Kajal Aggarwal from the first part, and who is content to pick up her pay cheque and step out of frame whenever Singham slow-motion walks into it. The copious use of Marathi in the movie, and Singham's self-identification as a Maratha at one point, leave no doubt about the movie's intended audience"the lakhs of beleaguered Mumbaiites who dream of a city in which order will replace chaos, politicians will serve the people rather than themselves, and the police will protect them rather than pick their pockets for bribes. On the last subject, the movie is clear: it's the system (invoked in capital letters) that is to blame, not individuals. We have moved on from Ram Gopal Varma's indictment of the rot that is embedded in the very foundation of this metropolis and his caustic depictions of the cosy ties between gangsters, politicians and police officials. The delusion of an incorruptible police force dedicated to upholding law and order at all costs and impervious to any manner of inducement pushes Singham Returns onto the same shelf as science fiction. Some of this vigilantism is successfully played for laughs, such as the sequence in which a quote from the Bhagwad Gita is countered with a reminder of the provisions in the Indian Penal Code, and the one in Singham and his khaki cohorts strip down to their spotless white vests when informed by the state's chief minister that as men of uniform, they cannot possibly take the law in their own hands. Their trousers stay on, probably in deference to the fact that this is, after all, a family movie.

Inspector Bajirao Singham aka Ajay Devgn will rock the box office this Independence Day with "Singham Returns". Starring Devgn and Kareena Kapoor Khan, "Singham Returns" has received overwhelming response at the advance booking ticket counter.

Advance booking opened on Monday and by Thursday the film registered good occupancy, especially in Mumbai circuits.

In Mumbai only, the film has more than 400 shows and most of them are filling fast. Due to Independence Day holiday, several morning shows tickets have already been already sold out. The evening and night shows have also received terrific response.

The response is same in Pune and National Capital Region (NCR), which includes New Delhi and areas surrounding Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. In NCR circuit also, the film has more than 500 shows.

The pre-booking of "Singham Returns" in Hyderabad also started with full swing. The night shows have received overwhelming response in the city, compared to morning shows.

In Bangalore the response is not as phenomenal as Mumbai, Pune and NCR region, but the occupancy is expected to increase.

Overall, looking at the pre-booking status, it looks like that the film is set to collect whopping amount on first day. And with long weekend, the film has very good chance of pulling crowds to it to put up a solid weekend.

The film is a sequel of 2011 hit movie "Singham" which did very well at the box office and the same is expected from "Singham Returns". The buzz surrounding the film is very strong, which will help the opening day collection.

Also, the theatrical trailer release of "Happy New Year" will boost the opening day box office collection. But the Saturday and Sunday collection will depend more on reviews and word of mouth.

"Singham Returns" is an action drama film and marks the return of hit jodi Rohit Shetty and Devgn. The actor director duo has previously given hit films including "Golmaal" series, "Bol Bachchan" and "Singham".
