Sanjay Leela Bhansali turns down YRF's request to shift Mary Kom's release date

Recently, Yash Raj Films shifted the release date of the Aditya Roy Kapur- Parineeti Chopra starrer Daawat-e-Ishq from September 5 to September 19. The reason behind the same was Sanjay Leela Bhansali's refusal to shift the release date of his Priyanka Chopra starrer, Mary Kom.

Reportedly, YRF approached SLB requesting him to move the release date of Mary Kom but Bhansali was adamant on keeping the release for September 5. YRF, worried about Daawat-e-Ishq getting overshadowed by Priyanka Chopra's film decided to kneel and settle for a later date, September 19.

Earlier, SLB had to move Mary Kom from its original intended release date, October 2nd, because Shahid Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor's Haider and Hrithik Roshan-Katrina Kaif's Bang Bang took up the same date. Perhaps that was the reason why the makers of Mary Kom weren't willing to change the date once again.

Perhaps, YRF needs to learn that no film release can be an island unto itself in this day and age

SLB already changed his date once. He can't keep changing, not at such a late request, the movie is barely 3 weeks away.

Daawat-E-Ishq release postponed

Tuesday, 12 August 2014 - 6:20am IST | Place: Mumbai | Agency: DNA

Daawat-E-Ishq release postponed... to accommodate Rani's comeback film?

It was supposed to be released on May 9, but after several date-shifts, 'finally' being scheduled for September 5, Daawat-E-Ishq (DEI) is now being pushed to September 19. This kind of delay in releasing a Yash Raj film? Unheard of!

The official reason given for delaying the Habib Faisal film, is "a unique marketing idea" being adopted to promote the film. An insider insists there are two reasons...

"Habib just wasn't ready with the film by the time May rolled in. And September 5 comes too close to Rani Mukerji's comeback film Mardaani (also a YRF film), which releases August 22. Yash Raj wanted a gap of at least one month between the two films, hence the delay," shares an insider.

A crew member of DEI says, "Rani's film is very important to Yash Raj for obvious reasons. It has to work for her sake. They went to give their all to its release and marketing before moving on to the next film."
