Entertaining movie. Full Paisa vassol cos of Amrita Singh. Loved the entire cast.I liked Arjun Kapoor a tad bit more than Alia but both were really good.
Alia's contact lens bothered me a lot though.

Though I didn't like Arjun much but I have to say that he was the best choice for a character like Krish. Ranbir would look way too old and gora for a character like Krish.

Btw, was just wondering, didn't Chetan's book look more dramatic than the film? I felt Chetan had stereotyped the characters a lot, especially Krish's mom. But it was so different in the film. She was loud but within limits. Very well done by Amrita. She along with Dolly Ahluwalia from VD are my fav.on screen Punjabi characters.👏

I agree...nothing about this movie was OTT...It looked so real...like u were there with them...nothing OTT about the college life like they tend to make it...nothing OTT about the Punjabis or South Indians...it was very very real...⭐️

Alright, so i watched the movie and let me tell you that i loved it.
First of all, I have never read the book so i don't know if they did justice to the characters. But, its really been a long time since i watched a movie, fully without falling asleep, getting fidgety or frustrated( haven't seen Queen)

One thing i liked about the story was that it wasn't over the top. I have seen similar stories, but with way too much filmi nonsense. The only scene that was filmi was Krish proposing to Ananya in front of an interviewer( obviously in the book i assume).
The story resonated with me, especially since i just graduated from university and I'm having to face the real world.

The stereotypes were there but used subtlety. In terms of actors, they all did wonderfully. Arjun Kapoor was a little restrained in his expressions, but as the movie went along he started becoming more comfortable. I really liked the scene when he confronts his father, and the hug between them at the end.😃 Another scene where he showed some range was when he was talking to his mother about what good she got in marrying a Punjabi...ouch.
Arjuns role was tough in the sense that the story rested on his shoulders. He was not only the narrator but the story was also told from his perspective. He could have easily messed up, but i thought he did a good job. He is slowly branching out of his angry young man phase.

The Alia in this movie versus the one in SOTY...wow what an improvement. She was very smooth, no overacting, no background music( SHANAYA) Just Ananya. I still feel she needs to work on her emotional scenes, as she tends to scrunch up her face and it becomes hard to watch. I'm not Tamil, so i would like to know if in the various times she spoke it, did she do a good job?
I didn't want to slap her in the face...thats a good thing. I didn't really pay attention to her not being Tamil, because she was engaging and a pleasure to watch. Her wardrobe and makeup was done nicely and i didn't feel like i was watching a "kid" which most people like to call her.

The standouts for me were Amrita Singh and Ronit Roy. Although he wasn't in the film as much, Ronit's character made me hate him and then love him at the end. He is such an amazing actor, I don't understand why he didn't make it bollywood.
I don't know if it was just me, but i found Kavita's character quite annoying. It might have to do with her own failed relationship, but i felt like she didn't want her son to be happy. I felt more sympathy with Ananya's parents.

The cinematography and music was wonderful and added to the scenes, not distracting from them except for Iski Uski...which i didn't like. The flow of the movie was one thing i didn't like. I felt like there was too much concentration in the beginning and less towards the end.
The chemistry between Arjun and Alia was natural and better than what i presumed it would be.

Standout scene: Krish marrying not only Ananya but her family lol...so cute.😆

The story wasn't exceptional, but i think that's what made it work.
Overall, I will give the movie a 7.5/10...which is pretty good in my standards.👍🏼

I wasn't impressed with the trailer... But the movie was entertaining. Its a good watch. I was looking forward to this movie, two reasons. One, because of Revathi and Amrita. They stood out in the trailer. Two, because i liked reading 2 States. Its CB's best book. Its no literary classic, but its a very pleasant read.

Alia and Arjun fit the part well. I was a little unsure about them, when they announced the casting. Pleasantly surprised to see them blend into the role.

Alia...I haven't watched Highway yet, so obviously i have missed her 'Meryl Streep' performance. Wasn't expecting much from her after watching SOTY. But she stood out in this movie. She does light up the screen...

I wish Revathi's character was developed more. She is such a fine actress. Most times she was just escorting the music teacher to the door with a sad face. Whatever little she did rest of the times, she was a pleasure to watch
Ronit Roy. What an underrated actor. The 6-7 scenes he had in the movie... Total justice to his role. He left a great impact. Loved him in the climax and the scene with Arjun when he walks into his dad's office.
Amrita... What a fabulous actress...She had the best lines. Her scenes with Achint Kaur were hilarious. The ones in the saree shop, the scene at the airport when they receive Arjun and Alia, her melodrama and emotional blackmailing with her son... Fun scenes.

Loved the music. It sounds and looks better in the movie. The cinematography is beautiful. Camera work, excellent. The climax was beautifully shot. The temple in the background. Just gorgeous.

PS: The highlight of the movie was Revathi singing, Saathiya tune kya kiya. I love that song.

^ Omg I loved when Revathi sang Saathiya song and the very next moment they ruined it with Kaho na pyaar hai song.😆
I loved the way they integrated Tamil songs in the movie. There was nothing caricature-ish about it. It blended in smoothly. The mix of Tamil and Punjabi culture and stereotypes were handled well and nothing over the top.

I agree Revathi's role was very small and wanted her to be as prominent as Amrita's role.

SPOILER

I just didn't get why Krish was explaining his whole story to the psychiatrist?😕 And suddenly eating nuts, playing with a toy, sleeping on the sofa and then suddenly his twins are present. 😕

Narration wasn't needed at all in my POV. I thought it was a waste of time and elongated the movie.

I agree with every body else, Revathi's character was under developed. Even Achint Kaur's character had more space than her. Coming to Kaur, her Punjabi was spot on. She was so good as the masi.
Mama, Maj. Bikramjit Singh had no dialogue😆

This reply is for Somy's assumption.😆

WHAAAT?😲😲 How didn't I get it? Maybe because I was in a bad mood as the F&B section was closed during the starting of the movie.😆

But seriously?? I watched the whole film thinking its the psychiatrist. But why was he narrating his own story to Ananya?😕
