She's an Indian citizen. She said it on some show long time ago, I think on Sajid's Superstars, that she was born in Denmark but she has an Indian passport. Idk how I remember this. 😆

If she is an Indian citizen then no one can take her voting rights away...either she is not an Indian citizen or the news article is wrong...

Katrina..
Deepika..
Imraan..
Alia...

😆😆...Next time some genius wants Kat to go back...they can ask the others to go back as well😉😆

Anyone born to Indian parents is considered an Indian citizen unless they specifically renounce it.

India doesn't allow DUAL citizenship...so even though they may have Indian parents...if they have the passport from another country they are not considered Indian citizens...

@blue-ice she is not going to vote this year because of IIFA
which is in florida this year
there is a recent article by mid-day
the actors who cannot vote due to work commitments
which didn't include foreign passport holders imran, kat and alia
deepika's reason listed below in that same article

Deepika Padukone:
The actress is flying to US to take part in an award ceremony, which is taking place on April 26. Since she is likely to perform at the function, she will be reaching the venue a few days before the gala. Owing to this, she won't be in Mumbai on election day.

I am aware that India doesn't allow dual citizenship.

I am addressing the misconception people some people have that being foreign born makes you a foreign citizen (not Indian). Until 1992 anyone whose father was an Indian citizen was eligible to be an Indian citizen. Since 1992 anyone whose parent was eligible to be an Indian citizen. Since 20014 anyone born to Indian parents is eligible to be an Indian citizen as long as their birth is registered in the consulate.

Unlike USA most nations do not offer citizenship by birth. You have to actually be naturalized or be born to citizen parents.

Deepika was born abroad to Indian citizens, and raised in India by Indian citizens. She is an Indian citizens until she specifically renounces. Once she obtains a foreign passport, India ceases to recognize their citizenship. It can be active renunciation where the person surrenders the Indian passport. Or it can be passive renunciation where the state ceases to recognize citizenship rights upon discovery.

I clicked the link...and here is what is written under Deepika's picture...I don't care if deepika was born in india or not as long as she is entertaining me...same goes for Katrina...😆...I don't even know why people care so much about nationality...I wouldn't even have commented in this thread if Katrina was not bashed on this forum day in and day out just because she is a foreigner...agar woh foreigner hai...toh technically ye saare foreigner hain😆

Deepika Padukone: Bollywood actressDeepika Padukone may be Bollywood's reigning queen, but she is not an Indian citizen. The actress was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her family relocated to Bangalore when Deepika was a year-old. (Photo: Varinder Chawla)

One must have lived in Denmark for at least six continuous years and have permanent residence in Denmark to be a Danish citizen.

I doubt Deepika qualified. Phekoo journalism. 😆
