In the very male dominated industry, these are the actresses who have always overshadowed even their superstar male co-stars! they were/are/will always remain to be the icon/divas/legends of Bollywood forever!

That aura started with Madhubala, continued with Rekha then Sri and ended with Madz! I see no other actress in that league anymore!

SO true !
We have Tabboo, Konkona, Vidya, Kangana - these great actresses.. But I miss the perfect blend of charishma + acting .. True that their acting can make you forget that they are not real.. But I miss those actresses who mesmerizes me with their divine beauty+screen-presense, takes you to some magic world from where you dont want to come back.. if you know what I mean 😆 Characters in movies like Chandni, Lamhe, DTPH, Sadma, Saajan, Khalnayak were out of the world I miss those 😭

I disagree. Madhuri's voice is just perfect when delivering dialogues and not at all dramatic. She has a rich tone of voice and many a times I have just heard her dialogues in devdas nd just listening to dem d feelings of her character gets conveyed. And her voice modulation is superb. In just tht scene in devdas where Devdas asks who brought him when he was unconscious nd den mocks Chandramukhi nd den the convo dat follows is a very good example of how beautifully Madz modulates her voice. Starts of with sarcasm, to gently mocking, to being hurt, to voicing her pride, to sounding arrogant and finally sounding vulnerable and full of longing. Just awesome!👏👏👏

Let drama be a drama .. Good movie / theatre lovers don't care if the script is high-voltage drama or the actors are playing it too high.. The magic should prevail.. Like in recent past, I can say it for Jodha Akbar 😃 ..
Madhuri was the last one to create that spell.. Kajol is my next favorite, but her acting is more like realistic, you can love her for being 'the girl next door'.. But Madhuri / SD, you KNOW they aren't your girl-next-door, and you dont even WANT them to be ! Yet, you just can't stop being marvelled by them !

I agree Madhuri and Sridevi are what you call All Rounders.

After Sridevi, Madhuri is my favourite actress.

About Devdas Madhuri was the best part 😆, she could have easily gone OTT like the rest of the cast but she did not. She was the only tolerable actor in that OTT movie.

I have loved many of her movies and am still a fan.

Sridevi and Madhuri not only have memorable movies but their songs as well.

I think the problem with Madhuri are her fans. They think she is the best at everything: shes the best dancer, best smile, best actress, best human being, best EVERYTHING. I think that is what has brought her brand value down, the fact that some people think she is a goddess. I really don't even dislike Madhuri, I think she was great during her own time and ofcourse an icon to some people...But people here have just taken it too far.

There are so many actresses that are better looking than her, so many that are better actresses, and so many who have a better box office record than her. Her moment has passed and her fans need to accept it and move on. This is the cycle of Bollywood, a lot of people will go and come, and I know lots of people have childhood attachments to Madhuri, but that doesn't mean you can discount others. Let it go.

Her fans have overhyped her so much to the point that a lot of people really cant stand her. That reality show she does has made it worse, and I love how her fans are turning a blind eye to the fact that she probably ASKED For that kind of treatment. If she didn't "want" to get up every 5 mins to dance or a praise thrown at her every 2 min SHE CAN ASK THEM TO STOP. She clearly wants the attention and needs it to elevate her ego. I hate when she makes that face "who me? get up and dance? oh no no no." and then gets up and dances. Its so TACKY and classless.

Also, lets not compare Madhuri to Amitabh or even Sridevi. Amitabh emerged from a dark phase in his life and gave some of the most strongest performances a leading actor has EVER given in the history of Bollywood...He is a REAL legend. Not a pretentious one.

And Sridevi is a in a league of her own...She doesn't attend every event or use public tax money to dance at some shows. She doesnt judge on a reality show where she gets praised every second...She doesn't use those cheap type of gimmicks. She didn't come on screen for 15 years, and when she did, the movie was critically acclaimed and a huge success. No gimmicks, no sucking up or inflation of the ego...Just good cinema and quality work...THAT is what you call a star, not someone who is desperate for attention.

I guess Madhuri did live in an era where heroines were forced into the shadows of leading men. Eighties and nineties were all about the men. Moreover, there were not than many good movies either. It was in the late nineties that Bollywood started evolving out of the clich masala and romance genre. Back then there was a dearth of good scripts, especially for women. So it is quite commendable that Madhuri achieved a superlative status as an icon. She held her own in an extremely male dominated industry. My personal Madhuri favorites are Parinda, Tezaab and Devdas. Even though as a kid I was a much bigger Madhuri maniac, Sridevi deserves due credit too for being an icon of that generation.

I'm not that sure about Madhuri's acting prowess though. She was definitely good. But I don't think we will ever know how she would have done some of the better female characters created these days. Maybe she would have excelled and become the greatest actress. Maybe she would have bombed lacking the acting finesse to portray better characters. Who knows? She is past her peak now and we will never find out.

That being said Madhuri Dixit made the song and dance routine worth it. It wasn't just her fantastic dancing abilities and smooth graceful moves. It was her whole package - the expression on her face, the subtle nuanced movements, the ability to portray emotion through motion and most importantly the sheer joy of dancing. Something magical just happens and lights up when she dances. There is something about watching Mohini, that feeling I cannot place my finger on, that something that Munni or Sheila cannot evoke. When I watch Dola Re, I find myself fixated on Madhuri, she captivates me, she is dancing next to supposedly the most beautiful woman in the world - but screw that beautiful woman, my eyes are glued to Madhuri, when she dances - she is the most beautiful woman in the world.

So perhaps in terms of acting, Madhuri may lack behind present day women - but I think it will be a long long time before we find someone close to her in dancing. To be honest without Madhuri, songs seem pointless. No one makes me wish movies had more songs anymore. Most of the time my head is screaming, oh God please no more songs.

I made dis post jsut to highlight her acting that ppl tend to overlook. Didn't even want her to get compared to others, but guess it was inevitable. Who wouldn't like d attention, btu dat does not mean dat one asks for it. As I hv said many a times, Madz is relatively an outsider even knw, she ain't married to some film-maker or superstar or into a BW family (nd by the way I am not implying anything abt other actors, d implications r purely incidental nd I wrote dis disclaimer after I realized d DP u hv 😳) tht others will feel compelled to shower their praise on her. It's totally on her own merit tht she gets d adulation she gets.

Also kindly don't demean a person who is simply going abt earning her living in a dignified way. It does not make her desperate for attention. How does working hard make one look cheap doing gimmicks and all? Also being visible is very much part of her profession and nothing wrong in doing so. She was teh only one Salman talked with respectfully nd with lot of affection when she came to BB to promote her films nd whn dey talked abt hardly meeting each other, Salman said dat dat was coz it was work and den home for Madz nd she didn't do parties. So how does dat make her desperate? Ya and finally in all these years ppl hv tht show to hodl against her. Don't knw much abt it, but dat can hardly be used against her.

As for mentioning others, sorry I can't stoop to such low levels by highlighting the negatives of others to show my fav in a better light, so wont even go der.
