30 crore? That shouldn't be a problem for films of this genre. I think it will be able to make 30 crores quite easily, the first day collections are already being estimated to be around 7 crore, right? And there is no big film releasing next week, hai na?

Quit worrying.😛

I cannot describe the feeling I got while watching this movie, Varun Dhawan is a superstar! And this is coming from someone who has hated practically all movies of such a genre, but this movie is total Paisa Vasool, a complete entertainer, meant to be watched in theaters and not on DVD!

Main Tera Hero movie review: David Dhawan gets back his Govinda charm in Varun Dhawan!

The king of comedy is back with a mindless but full on entertaining movie

David Dhawan is blessed to have a son like Varun Dhawan! Varun not just brings out his own best but also seems to have brought back the same old energy in papaDhawan. Main Tera Hero is a typical David Dhawan style movie, which is light-hearted, formulaic, masaledaar but full on energy! Sr Dhawan's past few films have not being doing that well at the box office and people considered the reason was the ageing of his best leading man"Govinda. But it seems David has found the perfect replacement for Govinda in son Varun Dhawan.

In Main Tera Hero, David uses a tried and tested formula but has given a new dimension to it, which is lot more energetic and has many such comic punches which will be pretty popular among the masses. He has been ably supported by a good screenplay and some terrific one-liners. This movie will not be an extraordinary cult classic comedy, but will give you wholesome entertainment.

Sajid-Wajid's music is splendid. Each track has been brilliantly composed so as to make your foot tap at every beat. Tracks like Besharmi ki height, Shanivaar raati and Palat are well choreographed as well.

The Plot

The story revolves around Sreenath Prasad aka Seenu (Vaun Dhawan) the most notorious boy in Ooty. He drops out from his college in Ooty in order to pursue education in a Bangalore college. Here he falls in love with Sunaina (Ileana D' Cruz). But Sunaina is forced to marry Angad(Arunoday Singh), a local police officer, who is more of a terrorising gangster.

Seenu also has another die-hard lover in the form of Ayesha (Nargis Fakhri), of whom he is unaware till the first half. He had once saved her friends from some goons by bashing the pulp out of them and Ayesha instantly knew that he was the perfect man for her. Ayesha's father (Anupam Kher) is a big gangster and kidnaps Sunaina to get hold of Seenu and compel him to marry his daughter. Now how Seenu gets screwed up in this love triangle, and how he uses his mind and muscle to strike back and come out victorious, is the basis of the film.

Performances

Varun Dhawan has given his 200 percent in the film and David Dhawan has utilised it to the best of his abilities. Varun literally carries the entire film on his shoulders. He has a bout of untapped energy, which has undoubtedly been captured well in this film. His talents are explored and he definitely is one actor to look forward to in the near future. His performance is lively and with every dialogue he leaves an ignorant smile on your face. His dance is full on Govinda-ish and it forces you to stand up and join him with every step. There are some scenes where you actually start seeing Govinda in Varun's acting.

Ileana D' Cruz is good and surprisingly Nargis Fakhri too. Both the heroines manage to add that necessary oomph in the movie and also couple it with some good acting. Arunoday Singh is the perfect eccentric-gangster-extortionist villain in the first half, but somehow he turns comical in the second half, which isn't as good. Anupam Kher as the funny don seems more comical than terrorising. On the contrary his right hand, played by Saurabh Shukla, does a very good job and manages to terrify you and at the same time tickle your funny bone. Rajpal Yadav is also hilarious and delivers a commendable performance. Rajpal Yadav's character reminds you of Johnny Leverfrom any of the '90s David Dhawan flicks. Shakti Kapoor's cameo is also well-timed.

Also there is Salman Khan in the film, who acts as the voice of God as Ganesha, Krishna and Jesus!

Verdict

The twists and turns in the film are timely. The comic timings are perfect. The facial expressions are superb. And lastly even though having an old formula, this film doesn't allow you to feel bored throughout the 128 minutes. Main Tera Hero is a full on entertainer. David Dhawan has presented a retro '90s style movie with peppy and foot-tapping music. For all those who read the quick movie review I had said that Govinda seems to have taken rebirth in the form of Varun Dhawan', and I was no bit wrong. See this film for Varun Dhawan and watch him do his herogiri in full on Govinda style. Though Main Tera Hero isn't a cult comedy movie, it is a must watch for cinegoers who want just entertainment, entertainment and entertainment!

Main Tera Hero: Son shines

Main Tera Hero

April 04, 2014

Cast: Varun Dhawan, Ileana D'cruz, Nargis Fakhri, Arunoday Singh, Anupam Kher, Saurabh Shukla, Rajpal Yadav

Director: David Dhawan

David Dhawan's comedies, the best of them, have been cheerfully low-IQ enterprises, constructed around predictable plot lines involving lookalike protagonists, mistaken identities, cheating husbands, and triangular love stories. When Dhawan was at the top of his game, one or any of these standard ideas would have been enough for him to bang out a film filled with non-stop laughs.

But Main Tera Hero, starring the filmmaker's son Varun, is a series of forced contrivances. The humor feels labored and manufactured, never arising spontaneously from the situations. It's a shame because you'd think Dhawan Sr would know exactly how to make these tropes work. We have Seenu Prasad (Varun), the resident enfant terrible who falls for campus cutie Sunaina (Ileana D'cruz). But their romance hits a speed bump when Ayesha (Nargis Fakhri), the daughter of a don, takes a shine to our hero.

Dipping into his vault of tried and tested formulas, David embellishes this basic premise with an ill-conceived kidnapping subplot, and throws in various characters to thicken the mix: a second suitor for Sunaina's affections in the form of a hot-headed cop (Arunoday Singh), Ayesha's dim-witted trigger-happy dad (Anupam Kher), and sundry sidekicks (Saurabh Shukla and Rajpal Yadav, both in good form). The bimbo count is raised by the presence of Evelyn Sharma, surprisingly effective in a small role as the don's trophy girlfriend.

Little of this sadly flies because the dialogue feels stilted, and there's an overdose of those English puns in Hindi lines. "Jabse main pampers mein thi, mere dad mujhe pamper karte aaye hain," Nargis says at one point. There are countless references to other films, gratuitous cameos (Shakti Kapoor) that add little value, and an overall feeling of "haven't-we-seen-enough-of-this-nonsense-already?" that hangs over the film.

Expectedly Main Tera Hero is meant as a showcase for the many talents of Dhawan Jr, who can dance, fight and contort his face and body with remarkable flexibility. A scene in which he evades Saurabh Shukla while all along trailing right behind him is vintage Govinda. Meanwhile his lack of inhibitions - both when it comes to losing his shirt repeatedly and performing outlandish gags - is evocative of a younger Salman Khan. Those actors did some of their best comic work with David Dhawan, and Varun too is easily the biggest strength of this film. Nargis Fakhri, cleverly used, inspires a few laughs, but Ileana D'cruz is purely ornamental.

There are the odd touches here and there that call to mind David's sharp wit - explaining why Anupam Kher repeats the last bit of every sentence he utters, Saurabh Shukla says: "Manali ki vaadiyon mein inka janm hua tha" - but the film needed more of such inspired lunacy.

I'm going with two out of five for Main Tera Hero. Watch it if you must for its catchy songs, a few good laughs, and a leading man who really tries
