While I agree he was extremely overrated in his prime as an actor, his second innings, as a character actor, has seen some wonderful performances.

Regardless if its true if he called Yash CHopra or not, I think its quite ridiculous and insane to say that his run ended the day he called Yash Chopra, that was in 1999, and since 1999 Amitabh has given SO MANY strong iconic performances such as Sarkar, Black Paa, etc etc The list is endless.

I don't know why you referred to him as a character actor because in a lot of the movies HE IS THE MAIN ACTOR...are you saying he was a character actor in Paa? Black? Sarkar? Baghban? I mean you're putting him in the category of Paresh Rawal and Shakti Kapoor, clearly there is a difference.

Im sure lots of people in the industry have made calls and asked for work, at least he was secure enough to say it (if he did), Besides, whether he got Mohabbatien as a favour or not, that doesn't take away that every movie he got after that was on his own merit and talent, and the acting he has done in these movies can only be credited to HIM and no one else.

I don't care if he paid every director off, its still HIS PERFORMANCE and he nailed it.

His run was over somewhere in the mid-90s. He smartly shifted to character roles. If anything has slowed him down its his health problems. Otherwise he is a Colossus to Indian cinema.

Elvis had the right face ( i.e. skin color) and happened to be a decent singer who could move his hips, but his dancing ability was NOTHING in comparison to many of his peers of the time. Even Sam Phillips and other Elvis Presley producers acknowledged the fact by saying 'if I had a white man who could sing like a black man I would make a million dollars'.
While I am not claiming Elvis was completely talentless he wasn't all that either.
He was a puppet who couldn't even write his own songs or compose his own music. His talent paled to that of his peers at the time. That's the reason he faded out when real musicians with real abilities started to make their mark by the mid/end 1960's/1970's.
And for the record Rock & Roll has it's origins in Black American Music and not white, white folks just jacked it the way they jack everything else. And Chuck Berry is the Father, Mother, King, Queen, Kaiser and God of Rock n Roll and no one else, regardless of how much mainstream media and popular culture propagates otherwise, history can not be changed.

Amitabh similarly is just as overhyped, although not talentless there are dozens of actors more talented than him. The same thing applies to ShahRukh Khan as well btw, talent does exist with these people but not to the extent the media pushes them.

@Bold

Hyperbolic statements like Elvis does not have the talent of a Sammy Davis or a James Brown or a Chuck Berrt and people who don't think otherwise are deluded well, make you seem unreasonable. This is your opinion, not fact. Who will you believe ? Rolling Stone magazine that ranked Elvis higher than all three in the 100 greatest artists of all time ?

It is true Civil Rights and the era they were played a big part in their popularity. But Elvis has sold more records and is still selling records today long after he is dead and gone and is one of the highest earning musicians of all time. There had to be some talent there for him to be so and despite the fat Elvis days.

Yes, BigB is not the most talented out there nor is SRK, but if you notice they are among the most hard working. How many of BigB's contemporaries are working now ? Talent is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration as the saying goes. BigB and SRK are the biggest examples of that. They are not the most talented, good looking of the lot. But few people work as hard as them and that is why they are mega successful and iconic.

He's had an amazing career even in mid 50s and 60s. Its unrealistic to expect him to do only lead roles at that age, but even many character roles were strong ones. Not to mention he won two National Awards for best actor after his comeback. Truly remarkable. Any actor in 60s would dream to have such a career.

i don't think AB was in run.He is beyond that.

He has achieved that status where no matter how many hits or flops he gives his brand value won't go down and i think thats fair.He has had a long journey of around 45 years. His journey has seen many ups and downs and he has proved himself time and again...falling down, gathering himself up,moving on and reaching the top again.Even at the age of 60 he has reached a new height of success. After facing such a great loss he has gathered his family and faught that too.How many people do you know in film industry who has achieved a great height after seeing failure? But this man has done it more than once.i think now its time that we move over judging him on hits or flops. He doesn't need to prove it time and again that he has it in him to be at the top.
He is an icon,a legend and will remain to be one.

You need to decide what it is, that you're asking.

When you say 'run', its implied you mean Box-office because there really isn't any other run and Bachchan hasn't been relevant at the Box office for a while now. A few small budget average grossers like Cheeni Kum, Sarkar, Paa and the likes don't constitute a 'run'. His box office standing is worse than Imran Khan.

If by run, you meant as an actor, then clearly not. His only competition is Rishi Kapoor, in his space. There will be a lot more roles, maybe not as frequent and some great performances which is a given with AB sr. But today, he is a character actor and not a mainstream star.
