I mean we still have actresses trying to carry a movie on their shoulders in terms of Dangerous Ishq and Ishq in paris but those movies failed because the storyline itself was crap and the movies had nothing good to offer.

exactly for women centric movies to work, first movie has to REALLY good. If it gets too boring even for a little bit, audience will lose interest.

Women dont have star power like men where they dish out crap and audience will still accept it.

Second, budget has to be low so that they can easily cover their cost.

And third, of course the actress has to be really good who can captivate the audience for the whole time.

If these things are not in place, then even today..women centric movies wont work. Sad but true.

Good for her ! Someone should stand and make way for strong, female roles. It may fail in the beginning to an audience not accustomed to it, but in a few years it will definitely work.
