Actually, it is us the audience that is responsible for the attitude taken by most actors, directors and producers. Most audiencelose interest in actressesonce they are married because we do not want to see them do roles that the unmarried actresses are doing. Not many would want to see a married actress do Katrina's strip tease from Dhoom3. Yet if Katrina were married, it would not make the scene many less sexy than now. Just double standards there.
Even though we have moved strides in technology and science and what not, it is still a patriarchal society in India. Men do not want to see the main and lead actor romance an actress who is married in real life, it is like she is now out of bounds. Listen to Salman's chauvinistic attitude of the actress being some-one's wife. That is the first hurdle that most married actresses face. The second is that Indian actresses seem to take time off when pregnant, whereas most other places, it is either worked into the script or worked around it. Also, how often do we see our married actresses pregnant and flaunting a belly on the cover of a magazine or on the beach. This break seems to effectively, if unfairly, put a complete brake on the actresses career.Simply, most of the audience does not accept that a married heroine can be just as or even more effective in movies than the single heroines. We may all talk the talk of them retaining their talent, beauty, sexiness and figures, but how many walk the talk and shell out the greens at the movie theatre, examples, Juhi, Madhuri and Karisma? There is also the fact thatwe immediately slate them into "aunty" slots ourselves and make fun of the weight that they pick up during pregnancy without even considering their individual health issues. As women fans and audience, we ourselves are very unforgiving to the actresses - imagine the grit and determination that that it took Aishwariya for her get back into public after the lambasting and insultingfor retaining pregnancy weight? We do it on public platforms of letters to magazines, papers and on various internet websites, surely big andhighly successfulproduction houses have a PR department with employees that look at things like this specifically. The sad thing is that we as women deliberately and sometimes viciouslysabotage the chances of these actresses ourselves by denigrating them.
The perception towards a married actress is different when compared to unmarried ones..I personally don't like married actress romancing onscreen...May be that is in our Indian culture we have grown with..
