I do not think that Kareena completed much of her education, so her knowledge previously was quite stunted, and living in a family that did not hold education up highly and limited themselves to movies only, she naturally saw that as her future. There is no doubt that she is talented. In fact, I personally feel that there are very few actresses that have the range that Kareena does. She is versatile beyond words. But because of her limited knowledge of the world and limited experiences, she wallowed and perfected her art. Never mind the flops, producers and directors still flocked for her passion and talent in her art.

Personally, Saif is good for her - he has broadened her horizon, has informally educated her in things that were not even in her imagination. This is the perfect case of that movie, My Fair Lady - sophisticated, richer, educated, suave older man falls and re-invents the younger, beautiful, inexperienced heroine. Kareena has been re-invented as a person. This effect of being more knowledgeable about art, food, wines, foreign movies, foreign holidays, reading etc., unfortunately has stunted her drive for movies and acting.
The sad thing is that Kareena is experiencing now what the rest of us experienced in our teenage years and twenties - the expansion of our personality and learning about ourselves. Saif is giving her what our parents did for us - allowing us to expand and flourish.
I would think that she has earned enough money over the years, and she definitely slogged in the movies earlier round, so she probably feels that she has earned a respite over the fighting, and we all know how hard she fought to retain her position.
I think that she has earned it - many actresses have come and gone, but Kareena has stood strong and talented in the face of it all. Many have challenged her position and since disappeared and she has laughed in the face of those challenges.
I will miss seeing her so much on screen if she is slowing her pace, but the good thing about Kareena is that in her long career, even her flop movies had mesmerising acting of hers. Ten years from now, people will not only remember her hits, but her flops as well. How many actresses can brag that filmography, when many actresses won't even be remembered for their roles in hit movies.

With regards to Saif, he is neither my favourite actor nor my favourite Khan, SRK wins hands down on both, but Saif Ali Khan has definitely given me favourite movies, does that make sense?
Certain scenes that never die in my memory - Langda Tyagy (every scene), Salaam Namaste - his longing for her when she is pregnant, Hum Tum - the bathroom scene and the scene when he meets her years later or the kiss scene, Dil CHatha hain - every scene with SAK, and many more movies. Love Aaj Kal is not every one's favourite movie, but definitely one of my feel good movies - I watch it over and over again.
What this means is that I am a reluctant Saif Ali Khan fan.😳

I think bebo is no more a youth icon, not because she is married but she lost it herself. She is not doing any youth type movies any more. PC being her contemporary has holded that position good.

My God.
Oh dear God.
This is so beautiful. I seriously wish it were an article on Kareena, coz that's how APT I think it is!

I think there is a limit to how competitive a person wants to be. There comes a time that people get tired of the rat race. Sometimes, life isn't about comparing yourself with the next person or vying and clawing to be on the top. Sometimes you just have to be comfortable and content with who you are. Be the best that you want to be, not get defined by what others are doing. Kareena has had a successful career. She did the whole learning curve from stereotyped newbie to critically acclaimed actress. She's played the game of being competitive. Now she probably has hit the stage where she just wants to sit back and relax a bit.

PS: I think this is what marriage does to people - pour water on fire. That's why I am anti-marriage. 😆

I wonder if it was the marriage bit, or just her meeting Saif?
I sensed her losing her insecurities very quickly once he entered her life.

I understand what everyone is saying in terms of the whole life goes on, her insecurities are gone...and the whole shes content in life she doesn't need to compete thing

I get that and agree to some extent.

My problem is we have never had an actress who still continues to be just as strong aftere even marriage/kids. 100 years of cinema, and its the same crap...the actress gets married and doesn't care about anything.

I know its a male dominated industry, but still...I Really felt Aishwarya and Kareena had the potential to break the norm and be path breakers. I've already given up on Aishwarya and There is surely some hope for Kareena, but she doesn't seem to keen imo.

I remember watching Beyonc at the Grammys a few days ago, and I thought wow...Too bad there is no woman like that in Bollywood. I think the fact that there is no one like that, just proves how old-fashioned and regressive the industry is.

Actresses in Bollywood have not evolved in any way. The clothes may be coming off, the kisses might be increasing, the sex on screen may be increasing...But the mentality is still outdated. Its sad but true, From Madhuri to Kareena...its a span of 25 years, and these women are STILL thinking in the same way.

Some incredible insights/opinions here..

I agree that Kareena has lost her fire for movies because exploring life is her new fire. She had to live in a bubble growing up seeing the exact people she STILL sees today in the filmy world. She's still living in a bubble because she hasn't been watching movies (she will start to soon) and is unaware that now there are good movies where she can actually ACT in movies, not do 2 minute roles like all actresses did before. 😆

I remember Saifu was saying how they went to Italy together and only had a map in their hands, they roamed and had pizza, like how cool is that! They were nobody there but that freedom to experience and explore new places together, I mean c'mon, Saifu sounds so exciting!!

I hear you, but I am married and the fire has not gone away, just the priorities have changed and the passion is for those priorities.😳😆
Marriage to Saif has given Kareena options that she did not have previously, and she is taking them and running with it.
You know, I always loved the movie Dil to Pagal Hain, because I believe in its TAG LINE, there is one person out there meant for you. And I believe that Kareena has found that one person, fortunately enough for her, he is confident in himself to allow her to not only be happy and content in the decision to love and marry him, but also to allow her to grow and explore. This is brave of him, because there is that percentage of chance that she may "grow up" and away from him.
But everything else, I agree with you.
I will miss seeing her on screen, she is one artiste who truly brings to life the saying - larger than life onscreen. But I will wish her every happiness and success in what ever her endeavours, but will hope that she will give a thought to her fans and still do some movies. I still look forward to her in Shuddi and hope that her not being in the movie is just a bump in the road.
