The buzz around Dhurandhar 2 has officially hit peak intensity as the film gears up for its grand arrival. With paid previews kicking off today and a nationwide release lined up for tomorrow, the film has already turned into one of the most talked about releases of the year. Starring Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, and R Madhavan, the sequel carries massive expectations after the original film’s historic success.

Just hours before audiences step into theatres, the film’s certification details have surfaced online, revealing a series of last minute changes. The Central Board of Film Certification has suggested multiple edits, particularly targeting scenes packed with extreme violence, slightly trimming the film’s already massive runtime.

CBFC Targets Brutal Violence

The biggest talking point from the certification report is the focus on reducing graphic action. Out of several suggested changes, a key portion involved toning down sequences that were considered excessively violent. Scenes depicting actions like smashing an eye, beheading, and repeated head blows using objects such as a cement block and a hammer have been shortened.

These moments, described as intense and visually disturbing, were likely central to the film’s raw tone. While the cuts are not extensive in duration, they indicate how far the film pushes boundaries in terms of action and brutality.

Subtle Yet Significant Changes

Apart from violence, a few interesting modifications were also made to the film’s details. References to demonetization dates in subtitles have been corrected, ensuring factual accuracy. Another notable change includes replacing the mention of Lahore with Delhi in informational text within the film.

The makers also submitted formal permission for the use of references involving the Prime Minister along with news footage. This highlights the film’s attempt to stay rooted in a politically charged and realistic backdrop, adding another layer to its narrative.

Runtime Still Stretches Close to Four Hours

Even after the cuts, Dhurandhar 2 remains an epic in terms of length. The final approved runtime stands at 3 hours, 49 minutes, and 36 seconds. The original version submitted to the board was slightly longer, and the final trimmed version is still over six minutes shorter than the overseas cut.

For audiences, this means settling in for a long and immersive experience. The extended duration also hints at a story packed with multiple arcs, layered storytelling, and large scale action sequences that the makers clearly did not want to compromise on.

Advance Sales Signal Massive Opening

If early numbers are anything to go by, Dhurandhar 2 is already racing toward a thunderous opening. Paid preview bookings alone have crossed Rs 40 crore in advance sales, setting a strong tone even before the official release day.

For the opening day, ticket sales have surged past 4.70 lakh across more than 15000 shows in India. The advance gross for day one is already nearing Rs 30 crore, which places the film in a powerful position to dominate the box office right from the start.

Ranveer Singh Leads a Ferocious Comeback

The trailer, released earlier this month, gave a glimpse of what audiences can expect. Ranveer Singh appears in a much darker and more aggressive form, playing dual roles as Jaskirat and Hamza. The narrative promises a revenge driven storyline loaded with stylized action and emotionally charged conflicts.

With Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, and Sanjay Dutt returning to their roles, the film brings back a strong ensemble that adds weight to the sequel. Backed by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, Dhurandhar 2 is positioned as a larger, louder, and far more intense follow up to its predecessor.

As the film finally reaches audiences, all eyes are on whether this high voltage sequel can match or even surpass the legacy of the first installment.

And we would love to know from you about your thoughts on the CBFC cuts that took place. Are the extreme violent cuts or just overall all the censor cuts justified or unjustified. Let us know in the comments below.

Extreme violence cuts in Dhurandhar 2… fair or unfair?

TL;DR

Dhurandhar 2 hits theatres tomorrow but not without controversy. The CBFC has trimmed multiple brutal scenes including eye smashing and beheading moments in Ranveer Singh’s violent dual role saga. Despite cuts, the film runs nearly four hours and is already smashing advance bookings with over Rs 40 crore from paid previews alone. Will the hype explode at the box office?
