So a lot of celebrities endorse fairness creams. I remember going to India a few years back and one of the first things an aunty asked me was how I managed to get darker living in a cold country like Canada. At the time I didn't think much of it but when I went to a local pharmacy to pick up a lotion, I was shocked that almost every single one had some "fairness" element to it. And the man who worked there encouraged me to buy certain creams to make my skin lighter.

Do celebrities be able to endorse these creams? Some of these ads that I watched are absolutely ridiculous! And I can't believe how celebrities can openly endorse this.

Do you think it's wrong? Or should they be allowed to make this decision and sell a product they want?

You can't blame them Indians are obsessed with fairness. These celebs are just selling products that people are buying. I don't see the big problem here. It's not like people will stop using these products if these celebs stop endorsing them.

Madhuri, Kajol, Shilpa, Sushmita, Soha all have endorsed whitening age miracle creams. People prefer white kin the most and the celebrities are exploiting this idea the most.

Fairness companies knows the country's fixation with the white skin so they are exploiting this market and regarding celebs endorsing the fairness products it's 'Make the hay while the sun shines' for them.
I like Aamir Khan... he doesn't do much tv commercials but is doing Govt's Athithi Devo Bhava and Malnutrition eradication drive.

It's based on one's perception and the society we live in. I personally do not endorse skin whitening as I feel it promotes low self esteem. And this is why I do not like celebrities endorsing such brands although they do it only for the money

I met this beautiful Pakistani girl who visited Sri Lanka and was searching for local herbal remedies to get fairer skin because her mom insists she has dark skin and that she won't get good marriage proposals. I was shocked! I mean I'm born with tan skin, which is like super dark compared to her since she's extremely fair. I felt sad and upset that society has compelled people especially girls to stoop to such level and feel insecure about themselves :(

This is just my pov and no offense intended to anybody

I guess the real question here is about responsibilities and being a role model. Not every celebrity has endorsed fairness creams. Kangana has turned down fairness cream endorsements and so has Ranbir Kapoor, Chitrangada and Esha Gupta. Nadita Das has become the face of the "Dark is Beautiful" campaign. If more celebrities boycotted it, I do think it would be a step in the right direction, even if it is just a small one.

My main problem is how these ads are shown. They portray that a fairer person can someone just get more confidence and can go ahead in life. Also, the unrealistic results. They take a fair actor, make them darker only to make them lighter-looking towards then end. And all of this is supposed to happen in just a few days! And once your fair, suddenly everything is better in your life.

Celebrities do have an impact on the youth and they should accept responsibility of their endorsements.

Really? I tried to find ads with some of the older generation of actresses but I only found Juhi, Aishwarya and Mahima's fair and lovely ad.

What i find funny is dat the actors give credits to these fairness creams for their success wen in reality dey prefer more advanced cosmetics ! For eg-shahrukh says he used Fair n handsome before he became actor! COME ON ! Like THOSE CREAMS EXISTED DURING HIS STRUGGLING DAYS BACK THEN! Give me a break!
I believe no these NORMAL creams can make u fair ! It can remove tan bt not ur natural color ! If u want to be fair ,one must get a high class treatment😕
