Dia Mirza is re-inventing herself. From a non-grosser flick like Vashu Bhagnani's Rahna hain tere dil mein. to Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd, Dia will next be seen in the art film Bits and Pieces by the award-winning director, Manmohan Mahapatra. Asked about her latest career move, the Hyderabadi girl says, "This transition is almost around the time of the "renaissance" of my life. There is a drastic change in my outlook and clarity of thought and vision. And this transition is something I am happy and comfortable to have made." So how did Bits and Pieces come about? "Well, I got a phone call asking me if I would be interested in taking up a role opposite the protagonist in a movie directed by a national award winning director! I found no reason to say no and even less when I heard the director was Manmohan Mahapatra," she says with a laugh. An adaptation of an Oriya novel, Bits and Pieces deals with the journey of self-discovery by a novelist, Arindam (Rahul Bose), through his present and past works. Dia plays the character of Sheil, a woman of strong convictions and a deep emotion in whom the novelist finds the reflection of what he aspires to be as a human being. "This film set has been most interesting. The movie industry is evolving today, with thought-provoking people in the industry opening a window to hitherto unexplored realms. And to be a part of such a 'movement' is very exciting," says Dia, adding, "Sheil is someone very close to how I view myself. I am as emotional as she is and as strong in my opinions as she is too." Dia even sports a new, de-glamourised look, wearing hand-woven cotton saris in the movie. In fact, Dia seems to be in the midst of a personal journey of discovery herself. "I have understood that the only person I need to please is me, and that in itself has made me a lot more focused about what I want to achieve in life," says Dia confidently. So where does this leave romance in her life? "I am still searching for the right person," she says. Asked about her alleged link up with Sanjay Gupta, Dia shoots back, "It is amusing that one is assumed to be in a relationship with someone only because one is repeatedly invited to work with that banner. One could be talented too, you know! That said, Sanjay Gupta is a great guy. He is mature, protective and a very nice man. But he is not my kind of guy!" If not Sanjay, who is her kind of guy? "My kind of guy is someone I haven't met yet. He would be someone I look up to, respect and feel secure with. And once I find him I am going to be with him for the rest of my life!"says Dia. Romance aside, Dia certainly seems to be enjoying the direction her life and career have taken. We will just have to wait and see whether her new "arty" avatar will hold or whether the Bollywood glitz and masala will exert its lure. |
