Supporting roles and second fiddles are NOT the same thing. Second fiddle is an actress who's the love interest or a potential stock lover of the main character, usually the hero.

A supporting actress can be anyone - mom, sister, sister-in-law, etc!

In essence, you cannot compare Farida Jalal to a younger actress.

today everything has changed though.

what we tag cameo and special appearances are so different from how they were interpreted earlier.

like aishwariya's role in Mohabattein was tagged as special appearance but today that would be called supporting role cause she had a romantic song, featured in some other songs too and had dialogues and basically had a role which took story forward.

today we view cameos and special appearances as something which lasts for a few second or 1-2 minutes like kareena's appearance in the rowdy rathore song, katrina's appearance in the bodyguard title track, the om shanti om title track which included appearances of several celebs.

madz in devdas is questionable, it was more like secondary lead even though it shouldn't have been. If madz character hadn't gone to aish's house and danced...lol

Maybe they increased her scenes/songs on purpose to get madhuri to do the role

That is what I asked! What does second lead mean? The one who has a shorter role or the one who doesn't get the hero in the end? Or the one who has a less impactful role?

"A leading actor, leading actress, star, or simply lead, plays the role of the protagonist in a film or play.
