Sonakshi Sinha talks about her link-ups, adhering to a strict code of conduct, and why she is content with her 'Indian' image

Most of your films have been hero-centric. Lootera changed the perception about you as an actor...
I am not here to prove anything. I did 'Lootera' because I wanted to explore that side of my skill. I had no clue what a person suffering from asthma and TB goes through. I think I was somewhat successful in pulling it off. I like commercial cinema; it is my first love as an audience. And that is why I am unapologetic about being a part of these films. I am really happy in the space that I am in today. A film like 'Lootera' is very rare. Till then I am happy doing the dhamaal films. What's wrong with that?

You have two films up for release" Tigmanshu Dhulia's Bullett Raja and Prabhu Dheva's R... Rajkumar. Which one is closer to your heart?
It's like asking a mother to pick her favourite child! Both are my films. I have to plan and divide my time equally for the promotion of each while keeping in mind that the audience does not get confused between the two. Earlier, both were scheduled to release on the same day, but I requested the producers to space them out.

You will be seen dancing to a Sridevi song Har Kisi Ko Nahi Milta in your forthcoming film, Boss. Comment.
Nobody can recreate the kind of magic that she did in that song. That doesn't mean we can't try and pay a small tribute to her and Feroz Khan. But one should never make the mistake of comparing us with legends like Sridevi or Madhuri Dixit.

How come you managed to stay away from link-ups, except for one with Ranveer Singh on the sets of Lootera?
I don't get the time. Everything has a time and place in your life. Right now, it's work for me. When it has to happen, it will happen. As for the link-up with Ranveer, it was all bakwas.

Do you think, people treat you differently because you are Shatrughan Sinha's daughter?
Not really. Everybody has his or her own individuality. Thankfully, I have been able to make my own identity. Now people know me as Sonakshi Sinha.

From the time I entered the industry, I have always been clear about certain things " no short clothes, no kissing, no bikinis. Nobody comes to me with such roles. And I have no dearth of work.

Actors like Shabana Azmi feel younger actresses need to be more responsible in the kind of roles they take up and steer clear of those that project heroines as 'items'...
These things have always been there, it is just being written about more now because of media, and people are taking it seriously because of the unfortunate incidents that are taking place in the nation. Our first purpose is to entertain. It all depends on an individual's perspective. If a girl is not covered from head to toe, it does not mean she is inviting you to ogle at her. If we are interpreting it that way, it is not the girl, but our upbringing that is to be blamed. It is the thought process that needs to be changed.

You have a very Indian look. Are you planning an image makeover any time soon?
Why? I am happy the way I am. And I am happy that my films are doing well at the box-office. Small town is very big in cinema today, so why do you want me to change? Jab tak aisi filmein chal rahi hain, tab tak main aisi hi rahungi.
