By: Abid This Friday's new releases include Milind-Mukta-Mink starrer 'Katputtli' and Abhay-Soha's 'Ahista Ahista' . One feels that the well made 'Ahista Ahista'( Abhay Deol's next after 'Socha Na Tha') , boasting of good and popular music , is releasing on a wrong date as 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' is still very strong and may damage its prospects . 'Katputtli' is a doomed project , released today or any other day .

Opening of 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' : As expected Karan Johar's 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' opened to a huge response across India by-and-large . In Bombay the movie was released at 68 cinemas(thru Yash Raj Film distributors) and the opening can be termed as grand . Outside of Bombay , opening was bumper at the multiplexes but a little below the mark in some single-screens . Collections however shot up in C.P.C.I. ( where its opening was less) setting first day records in Nagpur , Jabalpur , Indore and the submerged Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal . Even in the regional film belt( Bhojpuri) of North Bihar , the movie released at 5 theaters of Muzaffarpur , 3 at Darbhanga and 4 at Patna . The first two shows on Friday were houseful even in this weak territory . Meanwhile in Madras the movie earned 30,00,655 from four screens (Sathyam, Ega, Anna & Mayajaal), the highest ever for any film in its opening weekend from Madras city! We had predicted some weeks back about the huge 300 prints Overseas release and also about the 12 crores expected business in 3-days and we were proved right( check out or news item - Huge Overseas Release For Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' ) . 'KANK' set a new record in US , UK and Australia , (ironically) beating Karan's last directorial venture 'Kabhi Khush Kabhie Gham' . In the US it collected $1,351,786 , In the UK about 750,000 and $180,446 in Australia . Verdict :- Though Karan's detractors are coming up with amusing items like 'KANK' not doing well in Nepal ( a part of Bihar territory with an all-India weightage of 1% to 2 % ), the outcome and the huge first week collections from the 1000 or so prints on Saturday may just act as the right antibiotic for them . 'Shaadi Kar Ke Phas Gaya' :- The moth-eaten Salman-Shilpa starrer collected 89,27,497 from 91 reported cinemas , for a first week total of about 1.55 crores from India . The movie has collected $176,892 from US . Verdict : 'Shaadi Kar Ke Phas Gaya' is an expected trade disaster . 'Anthony Kaun Hai ?' : The movie dropped after an average start . The Dutt-Warsi starrer collected 3,28,60,900 from 162 reported cinemas for a first week total of about 6 crores from India . Verdict : While the failure of 'Anthony Kaun Hai ?' is obvious , the Bombay distributor (Raksha Distributors) can still hope for a recovery . 'Darwaza Band Rakho' : - There was a time , not so long ago when Ramgopal Varma movies used to fare well in Bombay , whatever the fate may be elsewhere . However , of late even Bombay has got tired of his 'personal preferences' videos . RGV's latest offering 'Darwaza Band Rakho' collected 70,71,295 from 76 cinemas for a total of about 1.10 crores from India . Verdict :- Due to poor patronage 'Darwaza Band Rakho' has proved to be a supreme disaster . 'Omkara' :- The Vishal Bhardwaj directed Devgan,Saif,Viveik, Kareena and Bipasha starrer manages to hold on against all odds . Though the collections fell heavily in the second week , it may still slide to an average status . It has surprised many by its excellent run in the US and decent performance in the UK and the makers have to thank Saif for that . Second week collections : Bombay - 84,89,162 from 39 cinemas , total for 2 weeks 3,18,83,096 Thane district - 8,56,251 from 5 cinemas ( 9 on F.H.) Ahmedabad - 16,72,942 from 11 cinemas ( 1 unrecd.) Rajkot - 1,86,809 from 2 cinemas ( 1 unrecd.) Jamnagar - 1,02,963 from 2 cinemas ( 1 unrecd.) Delhi - 82,90,293 from 19 cinemas ( 1 on F.H.) Noida - 15,09,830 from 2 cinemas Ghaziabad - 15,86,859 from 10 cinemas Lucknow - 13,59,842 from 4 cinemas Agra - 3,67,078 Moradabad - 72,000 Bareilly - 62,760 Aligarh - 2,75,448 Mathura - 57,000 Dehradun ( Uttaranchal)- 1,80,633 from 2 cinemas Gurgaon ( East Punjab) - 18,00,235 from 4 cinemas Faridabad (East Punjab) - 7,19,345 from 2 cinemas Nagpur - 2,00,646 from 2 cinemas Amravati - 44,874 Akola - 47,538 Raipur - 1,22,806 Indore - 5,25,706 from 5 cinemas ( 2 on F.H.) Ujjain - 31,816 Jaipur - 8,96,468 from 6 cinemas ( 2 unrecd.) Bikaner - 1,01,244 Calcutta - 17,34,265 from 7 cinemas Hyderabad - 13,77,396 from 4 cinemas Aurangabad - 1,29,600 Bangalore ( 70 shows) - 13,68,617 Madras - 4,72,830 from 2 cinemas Second week total : 3,48,10,355 from 143 cinemas Two weeks total (calculated): All India 18.40 cr - 18.60 crores Overseas : US - $958,394 ; UK - to be declared officially Verdict :- The movie is a definate hit in US and decent in UK . In India the heavy price is a deterrent though it will still manage to get to an average status in India and a semi-hit ( maybe) in Delhi-U.P. 'Golmaal-Fun Unlimited' :- The movie may not get to the 30 crore nett from India , as was widely believed after the second week , though Bombay continues to give reasonable collections . In the fourth week the movie collected 1,11,92,426 from 143 reported cinemas for a total of about 26.40 crores from India in four weeks .
Verdict :- 'Golmaal-Fun Unlimited' is a superhit in Bombay and overall almost an above average .
