And @ MocoCoco, I agree with you. Madhubala was always more enchanting than Meena Kumari in my eyes. I actually kind of find her very boring and depressing due to the tragic roles she played and Madhubala always brought a smile on my face. Have people seen how expressive Madhubala was?! She was excellent! That song with Dev Anand..,,,accha ji main hari chalo maan jao na...? can you ever like ever expect KAt to give expressions that Madhu gave there?? Joke.Also Nutan was in my opinion the Supremeactress of their era. She was the most versatile indeed as you pointed out. Love her to bits.

Madhubala was spell-binding that's why HW directors wanted to work with her. Honestly, she was Indian cinema's real treasure. Too bad her family was too demanding and basically ruined her personal and professional life. I swear, she was so angellica and radiant on-screen but her personal life was lived with contrite memories and utter darkness. I don't think anyone right now has the talent to play someone that complex. I really wish they had done with movie in Madhuri's prime b/c she really is the modern-day avataar of Madhubala (looks/talent-wise), but oh well.
And yeah I totally love Nutan to death. She was far ahead of all the actresses in her time. I always found Meena Kumari so over-rated, I know one shouldn't speak bad of legenads but I remember seeing this list out a few years back that ranked her above Nutan and it peeved me a bit. 😆 I've honestly seen like 6 or 7 Meena Kumari films and she's doing the SAME exact acting in all of them...not my cup of tea even though I love dark and depressing movies a lot.
