Hi All I'm new to this forum but I'm a bit of a Trekker.

According to the Star Trek website Khan Noonien Singh is from Chandigarh Punjab. In Space Seed in the original series he is identified as Sikh and northern Indian.😉

The name Khan is common to Sikhs as well, for example Kahn Singh Nabha. Other Muslim type names common to Sikhs are Mukhtar, Iqubal etc.

The character is defintely meant to be Sikh and definitely from northern India.

I think teh Cummerbatch casting is a mistake and shows the ignorance Americans have about the rest of the world. I do however lover Cummerbach as an actor but would have loved Hrithik Roshan or Ajay Devgun to have played Khan Noonien Singh.

I love benedict.
please don't compare him to Hrithik and Aamir.
The old Khan character was also whitewashed. do you honestly think they would have an Indian guy playing a villain in such a big film? He did an amazing job in the film!

The old Khan was whitewashed? You have no idea what you are talking about. Gene Roddenberry the creator of Star Trek created Khan Noonien Singh to be Sikh and northern Indian.

...and whats wrong with Indian actors? Amrish Puri made an excellent villain in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, a massive Hollywood franchise.
