His first name is Khan and last name Singh...hence many Star Trek followers believe he is punjabi...also the character is Indian...no doubt in that, as it has been told everywhere by the makers. It was genetically mastered Indian man who will be beneficial for war.

but end of the day it depends on the vision of movie director. I am okay with it. For all we know, his character may be rewritten as half white half Indian. And if in soaps like OUAT, a black guy can play lancelot, I dont see the big deal.

Well yes Ben Kingsley did play Gandhi but the thing is they made him look like Gandhi...you know with the tanning and all. Here all Cumby has done is colour his hair black (as he is a blonde in real) but no change in complexion (I know its stereotypical but still goes with the Indian ethnicity of the character)

Also Ben Kingsley was half Indian with an Indian Gujarati father and Britich mother...so he still had a little bit of the ethnicity to portray Gandhi 😛
