There is an ongoing debate at many places regarding whitewashing of the character Khan Noonien Singh in Star Trek:Into darkness. The character of Khan is a genetically mastered Indian, who is supposedly 'perfect'.

My question is that when a name that screams INDIAN loud and clear...why did J.J Abrams (director) considered casting Benedict Cumberbatch (whom I totally love 😳 ) as Khan. I mean this is a clear case of whitewashing a brown character just so a white man can play it. Rarely are there many good roles for PoC in hollywood that they decided to give one of the best villainous role to a British actor.

Benedict as Khan in the above picture

It does sadden me a bit that hollywood is still so biased towards Indian actors...I mean Aamir khan or Hrithik (as he looks the part more) could have easily be chosen to play this character. There is no lack of talent in Indian actor but Hollywood director are not ready to look deep enough.

I have herd that Benedict has acted brilliantly in the movie which I had no doubt on because he is marvellous in Sherlock series on BBC but I am sure Aamir could have matched him in the acting department too.

What do you guy think?? Is it wrong to whitewash a character for convenience or everyone is making a fuss for no reason?

Who do you think would have suited the role from Bollywood?? Any names...

**** kindly refrain from posting negative things (which many people do elsewhere) about Benedict as people do consider him ugly or alien face...but I like my alien-cat just the way he is 😃

Aamir Khan? if you were making a genetically engineered superhuman, would you really make him a midget? 😆

He's still not as white washed as the brown skinned Indian actors/actresses are whitewashed in Hindi films and Tele Serials plus magazines and advertisements.😆

@tanzeb...point well made but my concern was that maybe once a brown character can be played by someone who is actually brown

Even the Indians with Khan surname usually have Afghani background .. and a lot of Afghans actually have white complexion ... so maybe a genetically engineered Khan is okay to be white 😳

^but he is not Muslim though...only his name is Khan...his last name is Singh and the previous Star Trek movie Wrath of the Khan made in 1860's showed Khan's flashbacks where he was wearing a turban

I mean he is punjabi to be precise 😉

Afghanis or pathans are also called Khan's and they are mostly white skinned and have pretty eyes.

So Yes to your question.

-----Edit----

Can't wait for the movie to be released.
