Mumbai: Believe it or not, Parineeti Chopra never watched movies while growing up! A t2 chat with the Ishaqzaade star who launched www.just5mins.in, a digital campaign for Nivea Total Face Cleanup (of which she is the face), in Mumbai on Monday.
The babe used to think acting in Bollywood was child's play until she herself tried it out. And it's only then the Chopra chick realised that there's more to this profession than wearing fancy clothes and travelling far and wide
"I used to think that the profession was an excuse to wear too much makeup, travel far and wide, and make quick money. Let me be more candid. I thought actors were successful for no reason. And everyone at YRF would tell me what a big dramebaaz I was. Even Anushka Sharma and Rani Mukerji used to tell me the same thing. Slowly I realised acting was no cakewalk. And I started nursing a strong desire to make a splash in Bollywood."
Are you a tech person?
I am a gadget freak' I don't know much about technology, but I love (buying) new gadgets all the time. It could be anything' right from my phone to the sound system to TV. In my house, my biggest expenses are always on electronics.
What are you hooked to right now?
My iPad! I am totally hooked to it. My favourite on my iPad? The camera! (Laughs) I love clicking pictures! I love it! I enjoy it. Most often I am clicking anything to do with water. Lots of ocean shots!
What would your summer skincare tips be?
Always shower in the morning. Never ever miss that. (Smiles) And then use a good deodorant. Moisturise your skin even if it's summer. A lot of people think that only when you feel the stretch on your skin, do you need to moisturise, but you need to moisturise anyway all the time. I don't have a particular regimen, but recently I have realised that the benefit of moisturising and washing your face in the morning and night is unparalleled. It is very important for your skin. And you'll see the difference.
Growing up, did you feel any Bolly heroine had skin to die for?
No, I never used to notice these things about them. I was only worried about my marks' my scores in school!
So, were you a good student?
Yeah I was very good! I was too good. (Laughs)
Coming to your Bollywood run, do you sometimes feel that you are living a dream?
Yeah! Yeah! I think the way I am' touchwood, touchwood, touchwood' very few people get the kind of accolades that I have got in my first two films and both my films have done well. I hope that happens in my third, fourth, fifth, 10th, 50th film' I always want that. I am hungry for people to say that my work was good... if it was good! And I think everybody wants appreciation. I just hope it remains like that.
But you became an actor quite by chance'
Yeah, I was a banker. I just became an actress somehow. Suddenly!
Now, do you feel this was what you always wanted to do?
Oh yeah, of course! It was destiny. It just had to happen somehow. I never thought of it or worked towards it and never had any dreams of it. But now when I do it, I cannot think of doing anything else. So, I am sure, it was only destiny.
How do you look back at your one-and-a-half-year journey?
I don't look back, actually. What is there to look back at, apart from the good moments that made me an actress' when I got my first film, when I got my second film' I think of those things and I think 'Wow! Thank god it happened to me!'
Who do you look up to in the industry today?
First is my sister (Priyanka Chopra). She has achieved a lot when she had no backing in the industry. Then Rani (Mukerji). She is my favourite, favourite, favourite actress. I look up to her a lot. I want to become the kind of actress that she became.
What do the Chopra sisters talk about when they meet?
We meet so much and we talk about so many different things. For other people, it is two actresses who happen to be sisters' when they meet what do they talk about? For us, I mean we have grown up together, I don't even see her like that. We just talk about anything. She is my sister!
So, what is the best tip that she has shared with you?
She told me that I should always be myself' that a lot of people would tell me ki, 'Now you are an actress and this is what you should do and this is the right thing to do'. A lot of people would give you those rules, but just be yourself. That is something that I am swearing by and I never let anybody change that!
