I don't agree with you. In the last 15 years he was nominated 11 times, won 5 awards(3 of which were for lead roles) and 1 national award. Keeping in mind his age is remarkable.

Talking about stardom, have you seen the crowd which gathers around his house every Sunday. People from far away villages(these people don't follow twitter or facebook) come here just to get a glimpse of their favorite actor. Millions follow him on twitter and facebook. Every thing he posts gets over 10000(that's actually understated) likes. Tell me which other actor of his era have such attraction? Leave alone them even actors like Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan fan base is lesser than him.

He hasn't lost it yet. He has Satyagraha, TGG, Bhootnath 2, Badla and may be more announced projects. He will lost the day when he will have zero project in hand.

Every actor go through lull period but very few resurrect. They deserve respect.

I am not a AB fan but he's a LEGEND whatsoever!
He has done crappy films so? Everyone did and still does. He's still in demand at 70! Speaks volume !

Hits, flops, it doesn't even matter for him anymore. He commands such respect from the industry, and you don't do that unless you've done something right.

He may be self-obsessed, a bit crazy, or whatever else, but the man is a legend, no two ways about it. The crowd that gathers outside his house every Sunday, the respect everyone gives him, they write roles specifically with him in mind...he is extremely well read, articulate, and knowledgeable. More importantly, he still has a great ZEST for learning. We may make fun of him using every social networking site possible at his age, but fact is he's kept up with the times and always wanted to know more and more.

Everyone does crappy films. Big B had an extremely bad period in late 80's and 90's where he just couldn't accept that he needed to adapt his roles with time. But he has some awesome films too. I may not be a huge huge fan of his or anything, but honestly I find it very easy to see WHY people, including my parents, are huge fans of his.

I think you missed the era...The angry young man came up during the Emergency...People were frustated with government...with society..poverty..no jobs...and they saw AB Sr...a angry young man...They saw themselves in AB Sr...His movies were blockbuster..every movie got a huge opening...

Take another example..Singham...released at perfect time...corruption at its peak..and people enjoyed it the way Ajay fight back the system...

The crazy fan following AB Sr had i think no one has come close to it...I think only person that may come close to it is Salman Khan...

I am not saying only the conditions helped him...He is a great actor...with great command over hindi but the condition during 70s and early 80s propeeled him to another orbit all together...

Amitabh did decent films like Anand and some more from Hrishikesh Mukherjee but he would never get the due from that place.

and seems what u r saying, it does look that Salman is on the same path. his movies shall make more money and he might be considered great than Amitabh when he reaches amitabh's age who knows. but there is no effort where acting is concerned. personally i would never be able to accept the 'legendary' status of AB sn or even Salman. Yes It could be the reason that I missed that era. but good films and appreciation always remain through many decades. i have seen most of his films and they are OTT to say the least. not my cup of tea
