Hits, flops, it doesn't even matter for him anymore. He commands such respect from the industry, and you don't do that unless you've done something right.

He may be self-obsessed, a bit crazy, or whatever else, but the man is a legend, no two ways about it. The crowd that gathers outside his house every Sunday, the respect everyone gives him, they write roles specifically with him in mind...he is extremely well read, articulate, and knowledgeable. More importantly, he still has a great ZEST for learning. We may make fun of him using every social networking site possible at his age, but fact is he's kept up with the times and always wanted to know more and more.

Everyone does crappy films. Big B had an extremely bad period in late 80's and 90's where he just couldn't accept that he needed to adapt his roles with time. But he has some awesome films too. I may not be a huge huge fan of his or anything, but honestly I find it very easy to see WHY people, including my parents, are huge fans of his.

I think you missed the era...The angry young man came up during the Emergency...People were frustated with government...with society..poverty..no jobs...and they saw AB Sr...a angry young man...They saw themselves in AB Sr...His movies were blockbuster..every movie got a huge opening...

Take another example..Singham...released at perfect time...corruption at its peak..and people enjoyed it the way Ajay fight back the system...

The crazy fan following AB Sr had i think no one has come close to it...I think only person that may come close to it is Salman Khan...

I am not saying only the conditions helped him...He is a great actor...with great command over hindi but the condition during 70s and early 80s propeeled him to another orbit all together...
