When SRK took Rohit Shetty for a walk...

For someone who has almost always had a working birthday on the sets, this year proved to be very special. Rohit Shetty, who turned a year older on Thursday, March 14, was treated to a surprise bash on the sets of Chennai Express in Wai. The plan was the brainchild of Rohit's leading man Shah Rukh Khan and was executed with the support of the film's crew.

Apparently, the day began with everyone going about their business as usual, save for those wishing Rohit. "While shooting went as per plan, a cake was cut in the morning. Rohit, who isn't much into celebrating his b'days, thought that was it for celebrations," a production co-ordinator told Mirror, on condition of anonymity.

Shooting usually ends by 6.30 in the evening, and Rohit being "the kind of guy who starts his day at 4am", according to a friend, ends up going to bed by 10pm.

Somehow, Thursday panned out differently, and shooting didn't get over until 8.30 or so in the night. Everybody started getting restless, moreso when Rohit's family members too reached Wai. However, SRK and gang had a bigger plan up their sleeve, and everything had been chalked out, down to the last detail.

According to the production co-ordinator, here's what happened: "As usual, Rohit retired to his room, and went to sleep at 10pm. Late in the night, SRK knocked on his door and asked him to come outside for a walk, saying he wanted to discuss the next day's shoot. Rohit found it rather strange but obliged.

SRK chatted with him and took him to a hall which was in complete darkness. Suddenly, the lights were switched on, and Rohit found the entire unit there. They almost jumped on him and sang 'happy birthday'."

Rohit was taken unawares and was almost in tears. He hugged SRK, after which, the bubbly was uncorked and the group broke out into a jig. With Deepika Padukone also present, songs from Cocktail, Golmaal and other films were played and the party went on till the wee hours.

Rohit cut a customised cake ordered by SRK that had a miniature of the filmmaker standing atop a car. The figure was such a replica that even Rohit's tattoo was highlighted.

And just when people thought it was high time they called it a day, what with the next day's shoot looming large, SRK suggested playing some board games. "Well… they all sat down and played Tambola till the morning," said the production co-ordinator.
