Sharmila is contradicting herself. Does she or does she not agree that item songs objectify women?
@desigal90: Her statement about Govinda being not condemned is factually untrue, so its naturally being pinpointed.

Yes and no.
She's saying they are to an extent, but so do most dance numbers, which are a large part of hindi film culture. Wedding sequences, advertisements, where do you draw the line? They all to an extent objectify. She adds that men are also being objectified in films but no one has a problem with that. Mostly coz men can get away with a lot.
Then she also says that if an actress chooses to be an object of desire, you shouldn't put restrictions on her. I support her stance in the sense that she's basically saying, stop restricting the women, coz that won't solve anything. It's highly simplistic to assume that rising violence against women is due to Bollywood dance numbers.

And yes, you can pinpoint that her example is not accurate.
But again, where does that tie into the comments of Saif being a douche?

its not censorship but selective censorship thats the problem. and sharmila chose to speak up for something that just affects her directly, thereby loosing credibility. she seems quite mum on the condemnation of movies like jism2 or murder 2 or erotica or a woman's sexual desire, she just chooses to focus on item songs and then takes. a person as example who hasn't done any of it in the recent times. frankly speaking all item songs r vulgar these days, but I somehow cannot get over the song fevicol se. the song when it wss busting charts was around the time delhi rape incide happened and it had lyrice like tandoori murgi. somehow I just cannot get over it. and the whole article looks like justification of that. also barring a few odd members no one really called saif douche. they merely pointed out charity begins at home and some songs saif did during that time were equally bad .

Edit: nkapoor, just because u choose to disagree with what sharmila says does not mean you can go on and call her dumb. please keep your dislike restrained in criticism only

Members were targeting Saif for the first few pages until I began to question what any if it has I do with the topic.

Go through the first few pages.

But that said, appreciate your comments on the topic at hand and not on irrelevant matters.

exactly, Sharmila is anything but dumb.
It's one thing to disagree with a woman's statement but the fact that she can coherently speak on this issue clearly speaks volumes about her mind.
And anyone who chooses to TA her stupid is kidding themselves.

Taanipartner, since I was speaking to you, I'll await for your comments. 😉
I dunno why people are under the impression that I give a damn about em when I clearly addressed your quote.
