Iit's actually not even entirely about showing,it's a part of reality of India but allowing it to be exaggerated even further (and sometimes being mocked at) by the world is what I don't like. It's not like by showing it anything will improve for the people who suffer. It's only entertainment for the west at the end of the day.

If a Pakistani film maker has guts to show by making movie like "Bol", from what I saw of SDM was more of a positive side how a boy from slum's manages to make it a show and earn his money through knowledge that he had by home schooling himself.

Why are some ignoring this aspect of the movie and criticizing the slums showing. This movie was not shown to the west only the whole world saw this movie.

I have been to India and have seen the slums myself.

Jennifer Lawerence didn't deserve that award.

What happened to Jessica Chastin for Zero Dark Thirty? that film had absolutely no dialogues and it was her face for over an hour. I don't think anyone was capable of doing her role. She was brilliant. Glad she won GG.

At Golden Globes, Jennfer wasn't even nominated. SLP was strictly an okay film. I'm okay with Anne H winning, but Amy Adams, my god she was great in The Master.

Why do people keep thinking that Slumdog Millionaire showed India in a negative light😡. Yes, it showed slums but it also showed how every Indian can converse in English, how resilient people in India are, how positive they are (slum was shown to be a happy place despite adverse conditions), and lastly how Indians believe in Karma. They were also religious elements shown in the film. The film also showed lifestyle of a rich man. I get the fact that it wasn't the best film but that film gave A.R. Rahman and Resul Pookutty an Oscar and should be held in high regards. Also, Danny Boyle states how Indian gangster flicks like Deewar and Satya were used as inspirations.

Err, that's not correct. Lawrence won the Golden Globe for musical/comedy, and also the SAG (undeservedly imo, but still).
Agreed about Lawrence's acting though. She was fine, but really inconsistent throughout, with some really well acted scenes and some sub-par. She couldn't bring much depth to this role either (the role wasn't that well-written to begin with). I would be shocked if this happens to be the best performance in whole of Hollwood (and around the world).

Like I said, IMO the recent Filmfare wins makes much more sense to me than the Hollywood sweethearts winning Oscars for one mediocre performance after the another. But it's subjective, so yeah ya whatever.

'Jaws' Music Cuts Off 'Life Of Pi' Visual Effects Team Oscar Speech (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post | By Cavan Sieczkowski

"Jaws" made an appearance at the Oscars Sunday night and took a chomp out of a too-long acceptance speech.

When the "Life of Pi" VFX team went on stage to accept the award for Best Visual Effects, VFX supervisor Bill Westenhofer was a little too verbose with his thank yous. Westenhofer's acceptance speech was overwhelmed by the "Jaws" theme song until it was drowned out altogether and the group was shuffled off stage.

Twitter, of course, took note of the blatant boot, and Nicole Kidman's sympathetic reaction.
