Salman Khan (pronunciation : [s?l'ma?n 'xa?n]; born Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan on 27 December 1965)[2] is an Indian film actor. He has starred in more than 80 Hindi films. Khan is now regarded as one of the greatest and most influential actors in the history of Indian cinema[3] following his movies' success after portraying in five consecutive blockbusters including Dabangg, Ready,Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger and Dabangg 2. Having done so,[4][5] he is often cited in the media as "The new King of Bollywood".[6][7][8][9][10]
Salman Khan made his acting debut in Biwi Ho To Aisi (1988). He achieved commercial success with the blockbuster Maine Pyar Kiya(1989), for which he won a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. He has starred in several commercially successful films, such asSaajan (1991), Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), Karan Arjun (1995), Judwaa (1997), Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998), Biwi No.1 (1999) and Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999), having appeared in the highest grossing film nine separate years during his career, a record that remains unbroken.[11] Eight of the films he has acted in, have accumulated gross earnings of over ?100 crore (US$18.2 million)worldwide.[12][13]
In 1999,Salman Khan won a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his extended appearance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) and since then has starred in several critical and commercial successes, including Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Tere Naam (2003), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), No Entry (2005), Partner (2007), Wanted (2009), Dabangg(2010), Ready (2011), Bodyguard (2011), Ek Tha Tiger (2012) (which has become the second highest-grossing Bollywood film of all-time) and Dabangg 2 (2012) and eight of his films have accumulated gross earnings of over ?100 crore (US$18.2 million) worldwide,[2][3] making Salman Khan one of the most successful leading actors of Hindi cinema.[4][5][6]A research conducted in 2013,showed that Salman Khan is the king of social media also,apart from boxoffice. Salman Khan had 7,408,859 fans on Facebook, 3,188,226 followers onTwitter, 60,567 videos on Youtube, 577,919 followers on Twitter fan clubs, 757,057 fans on facebook fan clubs and 2,774 followers on Google+ as of January 2013.[7][8]
Tere Naam (2003) is till date considered Salman Khan's best film with critically acclaimed performance.[9][10] For Tere Naam, Taran Adarsh said of him, "Salman Khan is exceptional in a role that fits him to the T. He breathes fire in sequences that demand uneasiness. But beneath the tough exterior lies a vulnerable person and this facet in particular comes to the fore in the latter reels.
