I just dont understand all this.

Aha... a great philosiphical point in a trivial thread.👏
so our BW forum represents th class warfare of th general public,
for th blue, rich n elite getaway with evrythng.
for th red, women r forced to hold on to higher standards of morality.

i think its more to do with the fact that a badass cynic sounds soo much cooler than a mushy gushy fan...

People generally tend to sway towards taking the cynic's side because the first thing that one comes across abt a fan is: They are biased because they obviously like someone. With cynics, because they never explicitly reveal their likes, a reader finds their opinion to be a bit more objective thereby siding with them...

Having said which, a cynic can be just as biased as a fan, for the opposite side...sometimes u can most definitely tell that there is bias in the criticism, because its propelled by hatred...similar to a fan's biased opinion which is propelled by love...

Incessant bashing of Celeb X,Y,Z is deemed perfectly acceptable and even encouraged. Members can indulge in as much bashing, mocking, ridiculing without any bullying, prejudice, or pressure from fellow IFers.
Fair enough.
Scenario 2:
Posts in defense of celebrities, no matter how respectful or logical, are met with contempt, disdain, and ridicule. Even if defense is incessant, the treatment towards fans is more often than not, degrading and demeaning.
Discuss.

I think because people think we are over zealous and crazy and being a supporter makes one look obsessed or worshipping the star.

Whereas cynics are deemed as being popular in touch with reality, as thy keep telling us the stars don't even know we exist so why do we bother to support. I do agree we need both to have debates, otherwise it be a celeb club or cynics ruling the roost

Desigal, good topic its true this forum is not what it used to be. There used to be a time where fun lively discussions took place, members got along but these days things just get too personal and the entire atmosphere is ruined. There are members who have left because of this. I am sick of the negativity too.

Mandy totally agree. Members used to get along, chit chat was enjoyable, and topics, but some people don't know how to make truces no matter how hard one tries

I dont come here to support anyone. I'm a cynic, I'm a fan and I bash when I want to. It would be good if people didnt take it personally. 😊

I gotta say Mandy, props for ya. Its gotta be tough dealing with all the recent mess.
I agree. This place used to be such a fun forum with some amazing members. Sure, IF always had its share of skeptics, but like Dex said, there was a balance before.
Its kinda funny, that I would always list Flav as one of the members I missed the most, when she was here the entire time! 😆
For the record, let me just say that i dont find anything wrong with being a skeptic or criticizing celebrities. But what I DO find amusing is the difference in treatment given to fans. We have feelings too 😆

Cynics are in. Being as ass Gets you props. Which is funny, how we seem to be more willing to cheer for the ones who put everyone down and criticize the optimists.
I'll admit to being a cynic but I'm also a fan. I think both fans and cynics can be equally logical and accepted if both groups maintain objectivity.

Fans who are blinded and worship stars are quite frankly, foolish. At the same time, cynics who go out of their way to poke and infuriate fans, or trash every celebrity for no good reason are equally foolish.

I am a fan of abhay, vidya and a few other stars. But if these stars act idiotically I refuse to waste time defending them, and have no problems critiquing their actions. I don't think that makes me a cynic though, but just objective.

I think for me the difference is that many people who call themselves "fans" seem to have an almost 11 year old level of objectivity so I mentally dismiss them as credulous fools who WANT to be lied to, or WANT some person who is merely a human being in a job with a high public recognition factor to be "perfect" so as to prove the wisdom of their taste.

No damned actor is "perfect" least of all because I like them in a movie or think they are cute! Jesus, people have FAMILY MEMBERS who turn out to have feet of clay and secrets so why in HELL would anyone be so damned invested in pretending or believing that someone else, just because they sing pretty or look good under the right lighting and with the right makeup NEVER MAKES A MISTAKE????
Are they kidding? Are they KIDS? Are they really stupid and really sheltered adults?
By the same token I dismiss cynics who seem to just take delight in picking apart certain actors. Yes, there are some actors who do things so far beyond the pale that they automatically become objects of loathing---Shiney Ahuja for one, though somehow Salman's PR machine saved him from the consequences of some pretty heinous crap.
As for people who intentionally try to be hurtful and insulting to fellow posters who don't share their views----well that's the kind of ignorant thinking that leads to stringent secrurity measures in airports. The world is full of opinions. Deal with it and move forward.
Still at least the cynics have a grasp on a basic reality of human life---we're ALL fallible. I consider myself a fan---for want of a better word---of SRK but the man is human and unless he can walk across my bathwater I hardly think that every PR story about him is the gospel truth and worshipping human beings is for dogs. Sorry but that's not my role in life, I don't care HOW good the man looked in Devdas, so it's all about a certain objectivity mixed with the worship. If a fan can do THAT---or is willing to do it---I respect 'em. Otherwise, I really don't give a rats ass about creating a celebrity centered religion.

Agree...thats why I would like to call myself a cynical fan.
