I think for me the difference is that many people who call themselves "fans" seem to have an almost 11 year old level of objectivity so I mentally dismiss them as credulous fools who WANT to be lied to, or WANT some person who is merely a human being in a job with a high public recognition factor to be "perfect" so as to prove the wisdom of their taste.
No damned actor is "perfect" least of all because I like them in a movie or think they are cute! Jesus, people have FAMILY MEMBERS who turn out to have feet of clay and secrets so why in HELL would anyone be so damned invested in pretending or believing that someone else, just because they sing pretty or look good under the right lighting and with the right makeup NEVER MAKES A MISTAKE????
Are they kidding? Are they KIDS? Are they really stupid and really sheltered adults?
By the same token I dismiss cynics who seem to just take delight in picking apart certain actors. Yes, there are some actors who do things so far beyond the pale that they automatically become objects of loathing---Shiney Ahuja for one, though somehow Salman's PR machine saved him from the consequences of some pretty heinous crap.
As for people who intentionally try to be hurtful and insulting to fellow posters who don't share their views----well that's the kind of ignorant thinking that leads to stringent secrurity measures in airports. The world is full of opinions. Deal with it and move forward.
Still at least the cynics have a grasp on a basic reality of human life---we're ALL fallible. I consider myself a fan---for want of a better word---of SRK but the man is human and unless he can walk across my bathwater I hardly think that every PR story about him is the gospel truth and worshipping human beings is for dogs. Sorry but that's not my role in life, I don't care HOW good the man looked in Devdas, so it's all about a certain objectivity mixed with the worship. If a fan can do THAT---or is willing to do it---I respect 'em. Otherwise, I really don't give a rats ass about creating a celebrity centered religion.
