Morality and celebrity criticism

How far is too far??? Generally whenever someone is ripping a celeb apart on touchy issues then one or two people or fans come forward and say... damn you don't have any shame.. sharam karo.. aur morality ki duhai detein hai... So what is morally ok and what is not morally ok while criticizing celebs.. Is critiquing celeb kids... calling some celeb ugly and picking on their physical features (i did that somewhere)... going too far?? Is linking a DIL and a FIL going too far?? What is acceptable and what is not acceptable while dissing celebs??

What is morally wrong:

- Calling an actor/actress ugly. (I'm sure 99% of us aren't the most fair skinned, miss world/universe titled, girl or guy out there. Who are we to criticize one's look? That's just how God made them).

- Bad talking about a celeb's son/daughter just because he/she is the son/daughter of a celeb.

- Judging the way an actor or actress behaves/eats dinner/ etc based on their religion. Just cause you're a celeb or a wife of a celeb doesn't mean you can't take the traditional Hindu way of eating dinner/lunch/food sitting on the floor or whatever. You're a Hindu (or Muslim or whatever religion) before you're an actor or actress.

- Judging the personality of an actor/actress based on printed articles/rumors. (If you've had first hand experience with a celeb then you have all the right to say all the crap you want. But if you haven't ever met the celeb in person who are you to judge their personality? Would you want some unknown judging your personality by what the stuff that is written about you)?

Everything else pretty much is okay...Criticizing an actor or actress for the better or worse. Constructive or non constructive criticism. Elaborating on rumors, linking up actors/actresses with co stars that they may or may not have an affair with. With being a well known celeb all of this is going to come at you at one point of the time or another. You just gotta deal with it or change professions.

We tend to forget celebrities are human and not everything they are going to say or do, we gonna like. I think it's a shame that we spend all our time bashing them for the stupidest things. We should only pay attention their work and criticize their work. Nothing less.

If you take the legalities out, morality is a very subjective issue. A lot of things I find morally correct are considered morally reprehensible by others and vice versa. So really, this isn't something that will be unanimously agreed upon.As far as censuring celebs and making salacious rumors go, I assume people do so for fun. Are the celebs in question being harmed in any way? No, correct? So, how do ethics and morality have any place in this? People are relieving their boredom and destressing, to them, this is morally correct. As for the ones that bear the brunt, they are not even receiving any of it to feel slighted. So really, consider this forum a huge cliff over which you scream. The sounds you hear back is just an echo.

If we were to pay attention just to a celeb's work, then Sonam (or most other actors) would be broke by now. All the money they have is the product of them selling their souls to the media and turning into media wh**es. So really, we've earned the right to criticize them on a personal level.

Be it Sonam or anyone else. What they say on a public platform or how they behave on a public platform is all an act in my opinion. Behind close doors, they are totally different people. Yes, if they put themselves on the spotlight and say something or do something there, than we have the right to talk about it and criticize it or whatever. It's considered part of their work but to question their morals or their intelligence or make rumors about their personal life, I think that crosses the line.

The best example for me is Victoria Beckham. If you look at her pictures, she comes across as a snobby bitch who never smiles and really has no expressions and seems like she just sucked on a lemon. The rare glimpses we do get of her life or what people who know her talk about her, paint a completely different picture of her. She is an extremely funny and intelligent person who is extremely down to earth and warm. So really it's unfair of us to go on and on and on judging what kind of a person she is based on some pictures and some public appearances. I hope this makes sense.

Any celeb, anywhere is bound to get criticized..be it for their work, looks, personality or anything, and they know this themselves. It's just inevitable...& as Dexter pointed out morality is very subjective, especially in this case. These celebs reveal so much about themselves in so many ways & the media as well..it's just impossible not to judge. Just take a look at everyday life..we're all just judgmental of the people we know let alone these celebs who are in the limelight professionally & personally 24/7.

If you're specifically talking about the way people tend to criticize these celebs on this forum..then the above applies here as well..& we must also remember that a lot of people on forums & on other social networks, merely like to vent or voice their thoughts on what they may not be able to express otherwise..so, at times some of us do say ridiculous things 😆, but all of that on a mere public forum is harmless.

This is an open forum and everyone has the right to say what they wish. Lets not forget that celebs work on creating a perception of themselves. It can range from SRK's family man perception to Ranbir's casanova perception. So what we say here is again our inferences based on the perceptions they create.

But yes I have seen fans come here and give duhai of morality. Then if the celeb isnt liked here a bunch of members come to the thread and bully these fans/newbies. This bullying should be discouraged.

It is the price of fame. The price is not always fair, but when someone chooses fame, they often pay the price with such criticism. As a public figure, politician, athlete, actor, musician, business guru - you have to simply accept the fact that you will earn devoted admirers as well as ardent and venomous haters.

That being said I think there is a line drawn at the family and extreme malicious slander/libel. That someone looks ugly, cannot act worth crap, dresses like fashion threw up, acts like a bitch and diva are matters of personal opinion and not fact. It may not sound nice, but an individual has a right to their opinion and to express it. It is not slander or libel as there is no truth or falsity to opinions. However, false statements passed as facts fall under slander/libel. For example I feel someone is promiscuous, is my gut feel and my prerogative but if I go around claiming for a fact that someone is promiscuous and has STD's - I cross a legal and ethical line.

Family needs no explanation. It is not a family's fault that they are related to someone famous. Unless in the limelight themselves, you leave them out. This is especially true with children. Most mature celebrities know how to protect their families from the limelight. But if the celebrity is stupid or immature, the onus of being mature falls on us.
