Chupke Se. | While Shayan Munshi was shooting for The Bong Connection in Kolkata last month, biwi Peeya Rai Chaudhary would drop by the sets and share private chats with him.
Little did Peeya know that she would soon be in the same film! Peeya, who signed on the dotted line on Saturday, has stepped into the slot left vacant by Riya Sen. The films also stars Riya's sister, Raima.
Peeya told HiTLIST, "When Joy had a problem with Riya over the dates, he asked me if I was interested. I liked the way he made it clear to me that I was just one of the names under consideration. When I showed the inclination, he said he would get back to me either way."

"I am looking to nosedive into films now," said Peeya. "I hope there are producers who are willing to put their faith in me as an actor. I was getting many offers, but didn't take them up. Most of the roles are similar to the youngest Bakshi daughter I did in Bride and Prejudice.
The Bong Connection role has a similar spunk, but there is no similarity in terms of character."
Produced under the Moxie India banner, The Bong Connection is 25 per cent in Bengali and the rest is in English. Does the former veejay Peeya speak Bengali? "After marriage (Shayan is Bengali), I have learnt it pretty quickly. After I am through with this film, I'm sure I'll be speaking Bengali fluently," said the actress, whose father is Bengali and mother Sindhi. "From childhood, I spoke Hindi, English or Marathi at home," she explained.
Won't share screen
Interestingly, the real life husband-wife will not share screen space together in the film. While Peeya is required to fly to the US for 30 days, Shayan's portions have been completed in Kolkata. Kolkata-based Joy was in Mumbai on Saturday, and left for the US on Sunday. Peeya will join him in a week's time.
The couple married only two months ago — will she miss her husband? "I am at work in the US. It's just a matter of a month.
However, I'll be travelling a lot with him for the promotion of the film. There have been days after our wedding when he was shooting for this film in Kolkata, and I wasn't with him. So it's not the first time that we'll be staying away from each other." |
