And seriously? Yeah, sure Imtiaz chose Nargis because she looks like Katrina. Am sure he went to NYC looking for a Katrina lookalike 🤪 He has nothing better to do
Whatever, am sure Nargis auditioned and he liked her. He did not choose her because she looks like Katrina Kaif.

Wow, that was really ignorant of you. 😕 I am sure you have some knowledge about India and it's prejudice towards fair-skinned girls -- the fact that you just brushed off such a glaring truth about India by terming it as a "pathetic excuse" just surprises me, to be honest.

Its our society and our industry. Its not about talent at all..people don't want to see indian or dark skinned girls. Its true.

It's all summed up in this quote..."Everyone wants what they can't have."
"Whiter" people go crazy for dark skinned and love to tan.
"Darker" people go crazy for light skinned and love the whole "fair skin" thing.

Our industry works the same way.

Our industry is racist. We still view 'whiter skin' as conventionally beautiful and the norm on what would be considered ideal. It is largely a view fuelled by the British Colonization of India and remains deeply embedded within our society, especially our film industry. Our caste system has also fuelled such a perspective, placing fairer skinned people in the higher tier of society.

People need to understand that color is entirely based on mankinds ability to adapt to our environment, our diet and various factors from way back when we began to evolve into the modern man. Neither white or dark is more or less beautiful than each other. It's all a social construct.

Things are definitely changing in India now, we are getting progressive in matters of caste, color and culture and I hope it continues to. Our film industry needs to be the one that CHANGES public perception of color, not continue to embody ancient racial beliefs.

wow! you do have some valid points here.👏
the problem with the general people in india is that they connect beauty to the skin colour..thats not right..infact i find dusky women more attractive and pretty..sadly people have a problem accepting it..iam a keralite and iam fair..i live in middle east and i have a mix of friends with europeans, south asians etc..lot of people actually commented on my skin colour..they were like'wow..you are not brown like most of the indians..you are fair'! i couldnt take it as a compliment..i find that comment rather insulting..then one of my european friends said''its good for you that your skin is not very white like us..white skin clearly shows out all the skin flaws where as a bit of tan covers it..and we love tanned skin''! lol..she does have a point there..😆

though kerala is known for the high rate of literacy many people love to live under the shade of ignorance..one of my best friends is still unmarried because she is over weight and dark in complexion! thats terrible..i really would love to see this system changed..dont know when and how..

off topic'---ROFL at some people who think over weight women are an embarassment to the women kind! unfortunately they are the same people who think indian public got bored of seeing dark women! LMAO! Ignorance at its best!😛

Well, this topic has veered off to some interesting avenues of thoughts.

If I may just add another of my own, beginning from my own statement If people really appreciated talent over beauty then ticket sales would reflect that opinion.

For me it is another manifestation of a theme that plagues all aspects of modern society. If it looks good then its good enough! No one seeks to delve past the form of a thing, into the substance of it.

Do not misunderstand me, I am not ignoring or undermining the value or importance of beauty, for even babies are attracted to the more outwardly beautiful people. It is part of our innate nature to prefer the more beautiful. However it is only a shallow measure and experience tends to teach us to perceive and comprehend past the obvious.

In terms of films, actors and styles of films and the idea of what is beautiful, I hate this conformity to one standard, which most of the time is an imported ideal. I hate it because it marks a gradual homogenisation of the world where diversity is lost and to quote another all the colours pale into one that hasn't got a name.

I am not saying that Indian film makers can not experiment with different styles, whether in films or actors, but when we reject our own heritage, our own style, we risk cutting ourselves off from our own legacies.

Indian women, actual real Indian women of all colours, tones and shapes, are part of our history, our heritage and add diversity to our world. If we only promote one imported ideal, then we risk extinction.

Feel free to disagree,

With love, Sabah
